Are you someone who's curious about vintage pens? We have two events for you on Friday evening! (Maybe three...) First, with the @pencollectorsofamerica and the @blackpen_society, there will be a panel "Vintage Pens for the Modern User" where you can hear from collectors about what draws them to vintage pens. Following that, PCA, Black Pen Society, and Pen Notes will host vintage pens "tasting" so you can try out vintage pens yourself. And finally, if you're feeling hooked... The PCA will host an auction where you might just get a "sumgai" deal on a vintage pen or two. Can someone remind me again what keywords and/or hashtags get a post into the fountain pen / fountain pens bsky feed?

dental insurance is more like a slight coupon if you need anything beyond annual cleanings.

Ink sac pens are some of the easiest to maintain because you just need to replace the sac, which are easy to get and you hardly ever need any special equipment, vs other types of fillers where you may need to get replacement parts

Nice choice, esp that cap!

My favorite pen to recommend to people who want to try vintage fountain pen is a Parker 51 aerometric because they just work and that ink sac is indestructible.

The same way! Not much difference in mechanics between one cartridge pen and another.

It takes some time for the ink to move through the feed. If you are impatient you can wrap the nib in a paper towel, hold on firmly, and flick it so the nib is forced through.

Here it is! It's not a special nib or anything.

There are leek pens on AliExpress but none as detailed as this one, alas.

It's from Japan. A friend helped me get it so unfortunately I'm not sure about other details.

How much do I love fountain pens? My Valentine's Day was spent with hundreds of other lunatics like myself who traveled to the pen show in LA.

This pen is a @newtonpens.bsky.social prospector that was given a new look by Bokumondoh Studios.

It's a 1990s entry level maki-e from Pilot's Hira maki-e series showing plum (ume). You might notice it's quite worn. It's a pen that belonged to my husband's grandfather, who passed away at 104. (Older than pilot pen company!)

SF pen show once had a ink testing station of just black inks. 49 of them total - all different.

Haven't inked it - but I generally enjoy using 3776s. I like the uef nib but some people might find it too scratchy!

This fountain pen is a platinum 3776 with an ume motif, posing conveniently on some ume flowers.

Long overdue, but it's always a good time to share how gorgeous this pen is.
