Cartoon showing a woman looking in to a microscope saying "Whoaah!!!" The caption states "The best part of Science is knowing, for a moment, something that nobody else in the world knows"

not paying indirect costs for research is like only paying the players in the Super Bowl.
can't have a Super Bowl without coaches, referees, security, janitors, announcers, stadium staff, and a stadium - and you can't have research without supporting people and facilities

Indirects fund my lights, desk, bench, computer, data storage, compute server, and the admin who make it so I can spend time doing research instead of scheduling meetings, thinking about budgets, etc. So indirects *are* tied to research, that's why they come with the grant for research.

A tortoiseshell cat curled up in the sun on top of a window cat tree, looking at the camera with her mouth open mid-meow. She's also wearing a cute red plaid bow tie.
Here's a cat, for some joy today. (Her name is Llamita and she embodies the concept of "tortitude")

I'm privileged to be pretty healthy and have always had insurance, but even then, I have spent a lot of time and energy fighting insurance. In grad school I had dual coverage, which meant neither insurance wanted to pay and recently my insurance told me that only people under 18 had acne. ππ€

We were supposed to have Christmas together and now I'll never see him again. The driver will be charged with manslaughter but it doesn't feel like enough for the pain they've caused. Don't be like them, if you're under the influence, give someone sober the keys.

My cousin, may he rest in peace, had a wonderful fiance, a beautiful sister, a caring father... He had me, his other cousins, his aunts and uncles, his friends. And now we are all poorer without him because someone chose to get on the road under the influence.

If you choose to operate a vehicle when you are not sober, I have no respect for you and would urge you to make better choices for the sake of others on the road. In an instant, you can permanently affect the lives of someone's family and friends.

First internship: vacuumed the slice of rat brain rather than the staining media because I didn't lift the bucket. It was one of only two samples from a 3-yr old rat. The postdoc I was working with was very nice about it, but I still cried.
