Dolly Parton has sent my daughter a new book every month for years as she does for thousands of children. She help fund the development of the Covid vaccine. Sheโ€™s not a billionaire. I think as non wealthy people itโ€™s hard to even imagine how much billionaires *could* be doing with their money.

Public transit. It may not be perfect, and it can vary wildly from city to city, but city public transit is infinitely more viable compared to the options (if any) in more remote locations

I always liked the implication that the Angels are learning, over time, how to better fight humanity. Many of the fights build off of the previous ones, as if they're sharing information as they die

"You are ordered to continue manning your posts until that time"

Though, that being said, it is very cool in Metroid Prime how Samus changes her beam types by changing the shape of her hand inside the arm cannon

Listen, I love Metroid and Samus, but it's time someone finally spoke the truth:

Mega Man's arm cannon having a fully functional hand that can retract and extend from the barrel as needed is a superior design

This is literally what people do when they're not left scrambling for survival every hour of every day. They build communities, create things, contribute. Wikipedia isn't an anomaly, it is a distillation of human nature itself

listen. listen. stop crying. we all knew this day would come. we all knew the debt would come due. we lived our lives of light and joy, knowing how we bought the warmth we shared. knowing what we owed. and now - listen! - now the time has come to settle up. the boys are back in town

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.

Thread on my perspective theory AKA why I would choose to set up my own perspective grids/roughs despite the wonderful 3D model I was lucky to have as a reference/base, and not simply trace the model as-is: many webtoons use/trace 3D models as BGs and you can always "just tell," right?

a man says people were going to die Alt: Clark Kent gestures as he says, โ€œPeople were going to die!โ€

The thing that some folks willingly misunderstand about Superman is that heโ€™s a firefighter, not a cop. For him, the legalities are somebody elseโ€™s problem and he sees his job as simply helping as many people as he can. Obviously you can deep dive on that, but fundamentally: firefighter, not cop.

Thank you for letting me know City is on Prime, for some reason I thought it was Crunchyroll (which I don't have)

I do a similar thing sometimes for forcing a specific order for names for Windows files and folders (well, using "0" instead of "!" as the prefix, but whatever gets the name to the top of the list)

Building roads was one of my favourite gameplay bits of Death Stranding, and surprise, it also rocks in the sequel

The balance of effort and reward is so satisfying, amplified by the fact that you are literally helping other players in a pretty significant way

Sam, this is Deadman. You've probably noticed those particle waveforms coming at you from all directions. That's light, on the so-called visible spectrum. Not very useful on its own, but when human eyes feed this data to the brain, it can reveal handy information about your immediate surroundings.

Alex scrolls on her phone of a graphic that says "Get off your phone." She says "mental health tik-tok is really sorting me out." She stares at another graphic that says "get off your phone" as the sun begins to set. At twilight, with visible stubble she views another one that says "get off your phone." Nightfall, another helpful tik-tok reminding her to get off her phone."
