The U.S. Antarctic research ship was decommissioned this year by DOGE. Fortunately, there is one remaining vessel operated by the Korea Polar Research Institute. We already know the Thwaites glacier is going to raise sea levels by 2 feet but we donβt yet know exactly how quickly and what comes next.

U.S. Coast Guard Boards Tanker Carrying Venezuelan Oil
NY Times reports that this tanker was not on any OFAC sanctions list, and there was no seizure warrant authorizing it under domestic law - even more lawless than the first seizure.

So the plan is Don Jr. and Eric Trump corner the market to become the biggest drug cartel in the Western hemisphere.
CIA controls production, the US military kills the competition with Hellfire missiles, CBP controls drug routes into and out of the US, and ICE raids the local distributors?

Head of "The Indian Independence".
I finally got my hands on a copy of "The Indian Independence", a short-lived Indian anticolonial periodical brought out by Bhupendra Nath Datta from Berlin in 1923. The German authorities instructed Datta to cease publication or leave the country. Datta did both.

Just finished Pynchon's #ShadowTicket. Was worth the wait and will need another read (to keep the characters straighter). Empathized too much with Hicks as an ex-pat trying to figure things out, watching America decline helplessly. It's both serious and whimsical, silly and cutting. Worth a read.

SC ruling on post-facto clearances sets environmental law back by decades
Future generations may well look back and ask us what we were doing when their constitutional right to a healthy environment was being dismantled.
MP Randeep Singh Surjewala writes that the recent SC decision allowing post-facto environmental clearances is an unsettling and deadly rollback of constitutional rights to a clean and healthy environment.
