Year 3 Brunswick Park Primary School

Year 3 produced fantastic newspaper reports this week, based on the book Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit. They included alliteration, descriptive language, quotes,and captions Well done year 3 They lovely to read @literacytree.bsky.social @inclusionbpps.bsky.social

What a busy half term! 3A ended their DT sewing topic by creating sock puppets. They worked hard to sew and decorate their animals. They really enjoyed the afternoon. Now for a well deserved rest! Have a lovely half term 3A!

3A had a brilliant science lesson this week. We carried out and experiment to see how much water different soils could absorb. We planned, predicted and then recorded the outcomes.

3A getting green fingers in the schools allotment. Weeding and planting. This linked with our personal development curriculum but also science. We are studying different soil types.

3A enjoyed learning more about AI today. We celebrated Safer Internet Day by exploring AI. We looked at the pros and cons. We discussed case studies and how it was used in different scenarios. We also talked about using it safely.

3a are having a lovely, fun afternoon of games and snacks! They have been competing and playing with new friends! What a relaxing way to end the week!

3a were studying the features of newspapers in English. We are going to write a newspaper report based around the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We have really enjoyed expanding our vocabulary in this topic!

Year 3 had a fantastic trip this week. We visited the South London Synagogue as part of our RE learning. We learnt so much more about Judaism. Nathan the Rabbi showed us the Ark where the beautiful Torah is housed. We tried on the Kippah hats and sang Jewish songs together.

Class 3B had a great time celebrating their marble treat. ‘Sip ‘n’ Paint’ with snacks. A fun and relaxing afternoon. 🎨🖌️@inclusionbpps.bsky.social @year3bpps.bsky.social @year2bpps.bsky.social

3a working as teams in their writing lesson. Using zones of relevance to support with inferring characters feelings. We explored different points in the text and how their emotions changed.

3a were refining their sewing skills this week. They improved their running stitches and made samplers. Some even mastered a cross stitch!

3a enjoyed using lolly sticks in maths! These helped us understand shapes and remainders. It also made us remember the hot summer months!

3a were learning how to sew in DT today. We found it tricky! We threaded needles, tied knots and then used a running stitch on hessian material. We need to be patient and practice.

3B were introduced to Touch Typing today. They tried very hard to keep their hands on the home keys.

3a were exploring textiles this week. We looked at synthetic and natural materials and what they are used for in the textile industry. We then created woven squares. Very tricky! However we persevered!

3a using place value charts in maths. This was to support us in multiplication.

3a were so excited to start job hunting! We are studying jobs, careers and sectors in PSHE. So many diverse opportunities ahead!

3a have been working so hard this week. After a good rest we have been straight back to our learning. Science we explored fossils and where they came from. We learnt about how they are formed. This reminded us of a guided reading book we studied! Mary Anning the famous fossil hunter.

3a had fun testing rocks in science. We made predictions and then carried out 3 different tests to find out more. We put them in water…scratched them and used citric acid on them. We then wrote a conclusion about the results.

3a learning about illustration in picture books. They drew stunning underwater scenes, using ideas from the book we are exploring. We will use these drawings to focus on prepositional noun phrases.

3a had fun using their different food skills and and a range of equipment. The salsa was a huge success. They enjoyed eating it with crunchy and soft tortillas. The smell was delicious.

3a worked in teams today to make Christingles. This was part of our learning in our world view and religion topic. We enjoyed learning about each part and what it symbolised. Great team work by all!

3a sorting needs cards during PSHE today. We looked at emotional care and physical care. We linked this learning to our rights respecting school exploration. We know that we are cared for by many different people. We also need to care for and look after each other! We are a team.

3a really enjoyed classifying rocks today. They used adjectives to describe them and grouped them. This linked with our maths work too!

Year 3 tasted a huge range of dishes. They completed a booklet to explain where the dish was from and gave it a rating. They loved all of the food!

Year 3 had the most wonderful time on their trip today. We visited a restaurant owned by parents of a child in our year group. They were so generous and welcoming. Lots of the other restaurants in the indoor market also contributed to the awesome feast of food from around around the world.

3a making arrays in maths today. Exploring multiplication and grouping in a different way.

3a made an interesting discovery today. A bag full of very interesting objects! Who do they belong to? What is their meaning? We cannot wait to find out more.
