I’ve voted with my wallet nearly as long as I’ve had a wallet. Israeli imports were my first boycott, followed by Shell Oil, Walmart and fast food chains. In recent years Amazon, Home Depot, and too many others to list. Being a minimalist helps. I thrift, repurpose and repair as much as possible.

The email that I received from them this morning stated that something like 23% of those of us receiving VA care qualify for dental care…as if that were something to cheer about and give thanks to “The Dear Leader.”

I know. My wife and I first saw it together on a date. It made quite an impression on us both. Not the least was/is to live a life of your own choosing…a timeless message. It’s no wonder this film aged so well.

Carved near the top of each stone is a small hand clutching a rose. While I can appreciate how much these girls were loved, I cannot fathom the degree to which they were missed. How many years did a loving finger retrace the outline of the little fists carved into these stones?

Years ago, I was prompted to look up the cause for their untimely deaths in our town's records. Both girls died of diphtheria. What's more, I was horrified to see this same page nearly filled with the names of children that summer. One family alone lost five children to the disease. We forget.

A short walk from my doorstep leads to a small family plot on an abandoned farmstead.

The Civil War ended four months before Emma Spaulding died on August 16, 1865, at the age of 7. Her sister, Mary, died three days later at the age of 5.

I make a distinction between humans and persons. Humans are biological organisms, but personhood, I believe, is an achievement. Among the prerequisites for personhood are empathy and compassion for others. Trump et. al. are humans, but clearly not persons.

If Jamie Raskin would run for POTUS I would so campaign for him. And so long as I’m here dreaming…AOC as his running mate.

One particularly odious hallmark of the right-wing is that it has to happen to them before it matters to them.

Nahaufnahme mit selektiver Schärfe. Die Blüte ist klar fokussiert, während der Hintergrund stark unscharf bleibt (Bokeh-Effekt), wodurch eine starke Motivtrennung entsteht. Farbe: Dominante Blau- und Violetttöne in der Blüte, ergänzt durch Grün im Stängel und Hintergrund sowie Akzente in Rot durch die unscharfen Mohnblumen. Satter, natürlicher Farbkontrast. Schärfentiefe: Sehr geringe Schärfentiefe. Nur die Blume liegt im Fokus, der Hintergrund löst sich vollständig in weiche Farbflächen auf. Lichtverhältnisse: Natürliches Tageslicht. Das Licht kommt leicht seitlich, wodurch feine Strukturen der Blütenblätter und des Stängels plastisch hervorgehoben werden.
