30.07.2025 02:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It does mean we could design games (even action ones) in a way that works with limiting the number of rows redrawn - allowing us to target a stable 60fps with good engineering.
30.07.2025 02:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Image of a playdate with the noise example rendered in the middle 12 rows of the screen. With illegible text and mostly darkened pixels.
At some point the screen can't keep up. This is what the screen on device looks like with the noise at 12 rows high.
The changes are so rapid the screen can't change the pixels quickly enough - which... I mean we don't need 1000fps ... right? πΆ
Playdate refresh rate is limited based on how many rows you update on the screen.
Full screen refresh (240 rows) you get 50 frames per second (more like 51-52 without mirror running like in my video).
You can get higher framerates by updating less rows.
Love to read your updates dude. You do fantastic work!

I watched Modern Problems a long time ago, and 2 weeks ago, after watching it again, I realized that I need a dustpan cleaner. This is how sick my brain is #gamedev

Finally I decided to learn more about lighting and start adjusting it in the game. Logic has never let me down, I asked Google what are the different types of exposure and light powers, then temperature... I tried it in Unreal Engine. It's unbelievable. Standardization! #gamedev #UnrealEngine
