If I worked in politics, I’d put my efforts into finding out what people who have not felt called to vote in recent elections want in a candidate…and then back candidates who appeal to that lot. There are FAR more non-voters out there we could be tapping into.

I feel like 90% of the posts on bsky only make sense if you’re *in* on it all. Like, you have to be *really* online to understand what some people are getting at… and that feels really problematic. Particularly for those of us who come here seeking news and info (rather than go to X). It’s clique-y.

All kidding aside, it is so *insane* & *shocking* & *dangerous* that Corporate Media has collectively decided to completely bury objective fact that the President is uninformed, confused, and physically & mentally deteriorating.

It says “The President” is making an announcement. What if *It* happened and ‘the President’ is referring to Vance?

People need to see evidence of other Mamdani-type candidates *win* in other places. I’d love to see James Talarico in TX win a statewide race. I miss Katie Porter. Mallory McMorrow is saying the right things. But there are *still* legions of Dems who claim “wE hAvE nO bENcH” and until you win them…

Shooting myself in the foot here bringing up Obama and Biden again, but they on e supported anti-LGBTQ policies. But they came around. Biden’s platform in 2020 was shaped heavily by the progressive left AFTER he won the nomination. There’s evidence of bending rational actors into rational positions

So the analogy is “I need a car to live but because the salesman didn’t come down to the price I wanted I’m still without a car and my livelihood is at risk”.

I also consider evidence of Dem politicians with positions counter to my values that have come around…

Oh - and again - I appreciate the good faith dialog from you. No sarcasm. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to Twitter.

So yes. Let’s work to get a good candidate who aligns with most of our values. But if we fail to do that and a candidate who shares 60-70% of our values is the nom - and no 3rd party vote has a logical chance to win - I say take 60-70% of a match over a 0% match. This doesn’t seem like a hard choice

I think we’re also not considering the widely gerrymandered maps that are going to make it even harder for a candidate with niche support to get elected.

And when you cast a 3rd party vote (or don’t vote at all), you create an environment that gets someone elect who shares 0% of your values. Bernie to Trump voters in 2016; non-voters for Biden. Stein voters in 2024.
