The building contains residential housing as well as a police station, grocery, and municipal offices. Whittier once boasted a second structure known as the Buckner Building. The Buckner Building still stands but was deemed unfit for habitation after the 1969 earthquake.[9]

Since SimCity 2000 I've been fascinated by the concept of Arcologies and the number of ways society has almost but not quite pulled them off.

Begich Towers almost count, but they were originally built as a military base so their self sufficiency is geared towards a goal, not simply existence

This tower building in Alaska is basically an Arcology so I like to check in on it from time to time and this is not what I was expecting from a real estate ad pitching me an apartment.
