Depends. Paperbacks for books I'll probably be reading only once. Books I'll probably reread I prefer hardcover. However if the paperback is much cheaper that tips the scale.

It's interesting to read the opinions of famous men in the past and learn they are not sexist or racist (or maybe way ahead of their times at least). It's very rare but it happens sometimes.
