‪Keep an eye on Mason Black. He’s struggled as a starter with surprisingly hittable stuff, but he has velocity. The team shifted him to relief late this year, and his velocity could play up in the role.‬

A few years ago, while he was on the team, I was saying that Stephen Vogt was a future manager. Obviously, I’ve got no regrets on that prediction now. But that is exactly the kind of manager the Giants need with this team. I don’t know who that is though.

Boy, Wily Adames sure didn’t waste time putting one of the Bonds’ curses to bed. First pitch! For the first time since Barry, a #SFGiants player has hit 30 home runs (as a Giant).

Sounds right, though Level is going to be very borderline on that Top 100 list and might fall off.

This is quite interesting, and a very big honor for Trevor Cohen, who slashed .327/.438/.402 across 28 games, though with just three doubles, one triple, and one home run in 107 at-bats. He had 20 walks to 15 strikeouts, and eight steals in ten attempts.

Overall, I find this to be a fascinating introduction of a new rule. I like the addition, and seeing how baseball adjusts and strategies develop will be fascinating. The game of baseball is all about adjustments, and this will be fun to watch.

There's also discussions of strategy around when to use them, with some scouts discussing using them only in high-leverage pitches, like the final pitches that are called outs or walks only (or primarily). But I've definitely heard dissent on that as well.

Of course, there's been limited chances for many big league players to get experience with the system, so it's a skill that every player will need to develop. Good organizations will put together challenge drills in Spring Training to help hitters get used to it.

Currently in Triple-A, there are no public stats for keeping track of which players make appeals, much less their success rate, but I've heard scouts discussing which players are good at it, so it is being tracked by clubs.

The new ABS system will introduce a new skill needed for players, particularly catchers: Effective appeals.

With "two" challenges (realistically, two failed challenges), the need to be accurate is important. On the defense, the catcher is best suited to handle appeals.

The #SFGiants got a B+ from BA for the season, thanks to several breakouts, and the only thing keeping them from an A were some injuries and a lack of successful promotions. Still, overall a positive season!

And infielders Maui Ahuna, Parks Harber and Walker Martin.

After tonight’s games, it is possible (even if unlikely) for the #SFGiants to get a playoff spot without help from any other team.

That said...maybe they just are working him back after struggles. If that's the case, San Jose may be where they want him close, working with handpicked coaches.

He has been remarkably underperforming this season in his fall from the top prospect lists.

Well, it's unclear if he has been injured, it's assumed he may have been, in which case, if he's doing a rehab it's very, very normal. We haven't seen an official roster transaction, so I don't know if he's officially listed that way.

Former Dodgers top prospect Diego Cartaya will make his #SFGiants organization debut in Low-A, trying to work his way back. He played in Triple-A earlier this season for the Twins before being released, and signed by the Giants.

To an untrained eye it seemed normal serious, but he may have had a cut due to the ball hitting his sunglasses, leading to the removal.

#SFGiants prospect Jhonny Level just had the worst of innings. After a ball went under his glove earlier this inning, another one took a weird hop off the first and smacked him in the face. He stayed down for a moment, and came out of the game.

The Mercury News reported that the league had to get a waiver voted on by the players to play in a non-soccer stadium, and it took the close coordination of the groundskeepers and the players to get that to happen. So yep, they are very good.

The weather in the Dominican Republic took out the last day of Pool play in the DSL Cup. All but two games were cancelled, and the remaining two got suspended, as all four teams in them (Including DSL Giants Black) could advance depending on the results, to come Sunday.

It is. Honestly, as we’re in the 85th minute, it’s held up great. Haven’t noticed a single player have any trouble with it.

And as for Drew…not bad for a 17th round pick. He has taken each opportunity and feasted.

Onil Perez will be swapping with Cavanaugh, heading back to Eugene.

Other notes include rehabbing R.J. Dabovich going back on the 7-day IL, and the releases of C Nomar Diaz and SS Ramon Peralta.

Some moves in the #SFGiants farm system over the Monday off-day:

4th round pick Lorenzo Meola and 7th rounder Cam Maldonado added to San Jose, as Ryan Reckley was "moved" to the ACL Giants, and 1st round pick Gavin Kilen was placed on the IL.

C Drew Cavanaugh was promoted to Richmond from Eugene.

So Taylor Swift is hinting she’ll sing the halftime show at SB 60 at Levi’s, and that’s fitting, but now I’m thinking it would be crazy awesome if she and Kelce broke up and the Chiefs go to the SB and god I wish the #SFGiants were good again so I could stop thinking about this.

That’s always a risk, gotta plan for a few days to catch every Giant.
