sometimes when handwriting i stack them vertically, which seems like a pretty good compromise to me but it's not something you can consistently do on computer. like theoretically you could do "̣ or .̎ but with most fonts it won't look right

my main non-spelling orthographical hot take is i don't like putting ending quotation marks after punctuation. either the quote includes punctuation and you put it within the quote for that reason (only really makes sense with ? or !) or it doesn't and you put it afterwards
