I was like 70% sure you were watching LUPIN THE THIRD. (It's a great Mr.-Gets-Away-With-It theme!)

Calling it now: Kurt is sketched out by the Frankenstein Monster, but is totally going to bond with him. "When the villagers get out the torches, that's bad; but those rake-things? That really hurts, nicht wahr?"

Panel from War of the Gods #2, "The Holy Wars" Story and layouts by George Perez, additional layouts by Russell Braun, finishes by Cynthia Martin and Romeo Tanghal.

As some exposition is dropped, Flash is eying Wonder Woman, and almost giggling like Butthead at the word "merge."

It was part of a long stretch where Wally's defining characteristic was "gross." (Somehow, a normal interest in sex was exaggerated repeatedly until, well, this.)

Oh yeah no leaping backwards over a table with a sword in your hand without even looking is probably much easier if the table is like two inches lower than normal, I could do that easy

You're underselling it a bit. Just a bit.

<sigh> If you let a five-year-old put mustard on your sandwich...I thought ah, whatever; and now just cartoonish levels of mustard leaking everywhere.

Well, my grandkids "helped" me make my lunch, which included licking each pepperoni like a stamp before putting it in the sandwich.

Honestly, I think they're ready for the workforce?

It's supposedly the coldest morning of the year here, and I swear I heard fireworks at 4:30 AM?

(My first thought, of course, was "did it happen?")

Panel from LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #2, art by Keith Giffen. Jo has seemingly just remembered he can shoot death-rays out of his eyes, and dispatches the bad guy thusly.
KONO: Not bad. But why didn't you do that in the FIRST place?
JO: Oh...too mad, I guess. Not thinking.

That's from LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #2, second issue of the "Five Years Later" era; and one of my favorite single issues ever! Not just because of the bad guys that talk like the Goofy Gophers...

You know, I think the old, old OFFICIAL HANDBOOKS OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE try to establish Warren is adapted to the rigors of flying--like hitting a bug at 120 miles an hour wouldn't faze him. Still, you'd think he would take care of his face...

Fucking ask him on that! "...why, though? Why do you need extra cash? What could you possibly need that you don't already have, or couldn't already easily buy?"

The traditional creation of the DC universe, a giant hand with a cluster of stars inside. You're not supposed to see this, you'll get in trouble! Pretty sure this is from an issue of CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, from Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Huh, is the giant hand there another--slightly more subtle--DC riff?

That's the equation Johnny Quick uses to go fast, isn't it?

Also, usually the heaven side is incompetent, corrupt, or otherwise useless. Which makes sense narratively; there's more drama and thus way more stories about devils tormenting people than angels saving them.

19.02.2026 17:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I was going to get into it but didn't: this falls into a long line of "heaven and hell fighting a secret war on earth" stories. (SPAWN, sadly, probably did it better; which feels damning...)

But it feels like in those, traditionally the heaven side isn't necessarily 'good,' either.

Enh, that might make sense: even for a superhero, Hawkeye's gotta have great arms, he probably never had to like develop any game.

The ROBOT CHICKEN Robot action figure, with washing machine. I don't have one myself!

A mere $45 on eBay...plus shipping. The guy had a video, but the humping was...not enthusiastic, let's say.

That is obviously Steve in the black suit! (A run I loved!)

I did have that Cap--I was coming out of a brief stretch where I pretended to not be interested in toys!

I love this panel, but it has bugged me for years! John is about half a head taller than Steve, and Steve is about half a head taller than Bucky. But somehow, between scale creep and reuse, their action figures are all pretty much the same height.

Anyway, up early. Did some overtime until I got bored, will do more later, have to drive my kid and go to the bank.

All of which sounds miserable; I assure you it's not as bad as all that. Maybe.
