Ok I've finished the game and can now give a less jokey review:

This is SUCH a good game. Beautiful art, compelling story, wacky characters, and chock-full of DS-era nostalgia. Praying that this is only the first in a series, because I'd love 50 more hours of Detective Instinct.

I tried booting up conquest again but could barely make it through the opening chapters 😭 it's a shame because there's so much potential, and I do love the concepts... but good lord the writing was just terrible

disclaimer: I do think that, in theory, Fates is a good game (excellent battle maps, music, art gameplay design, interesting characters, etc)

but the writing is just so god awful that I can barely stomach a chapter before longing to return to Awakening

debating whether I want to replay Fire Emblem Awakening or Fates is like asking the question "would you rather eat this delicious meal that you've already had 20 times, or this disgusting slop that you ate once over a decade ago?"
