How stupid would it be to try to make an E-convention, like on a massive Discord server? Have small chatrooms for the fast networking meetups, larger VCs for presentations, etc.

Not that I would want to put that together -- at least not while working full-time as a Pharmacy Tech 😭

MIND YOU, many of the speakers I had the pleasure of meeting were awesome people, and I don't think I would've ever gotten to know them otherwise

tl;dr it's an overpriced, overly-exclusive convention with increasingly icky vibes.

I don't have a solid point of reference for how it stands within the space of large tech & creative industry gatherings, but you'd probs be better off going to dedicated cons for your specific interest

Mind you, pass prices range from a few hundred $USD to over(?) $1500, depending on what you get (floor, expo, summits, core talks, all access, etc.)

And that also doesn't include lodging, food, transportation, and PLANE TICKETS if you aren't already local

This is before even considering the sloppification of the event, which is in full force, if this past GDC's itinerary was any indication.

Ngl, speaking from experience, GDC is a waste of money.

- The primary focus is networking, which could just as easily take place at an independent mixer or sthg
- Most of the insights at the talks can be found elsewhere (e.g. the socials of the speakers)
- SPEAKERS DON'T EVEN GET PAID (iirc)
