Glad that this Death Goddess is appreciated! ๐
08.08.2025 19:05 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Her temples, funerary in purpose, are painted in dark colours, and her adherents wear black or grey robes and (during ceremonies) veils.
They are seen as less "approachable" than priests of Lailus, though they serve just as important a function!

โ but also of the dying and terminally ill (Lailus presides over "medicine" in general, but only in terms of making people healthier, never palliative care).
Her primary festival is during the mid-autumn feast, It involves a good deal of Memento Mori, but also remembering of the dead too.
Her symbol is a waning moon, ๐ or sometimes a New Moon ๐; the moon which represents her in the night sky (and shares her name) is the darker of the two, slightly greyer in colour than her twin, this the "dark moon" moniker.
Adherents of Khonus preside over funerary rites, care for the dead, โ
โ one thing you don't want, it's for Khonus to take a dislike to you.
Some might describe her as a "necessary evil"; she represents the darker side of the cycle of life, which is death and decay, but without those things, the cycle itself wouldn't work.
โ go easy on you, not to make things *better*. To have the Eye of Khonus on you is seen as an ill omen, and seeing visions of her is rather like hearing a Banshee cry or seeing a Grim; she is an omen of death.
However, she is given equal standing to her twin sister by most, because if there's โ
Oh boy, so many to choose from!
I'm gonna go with my girl Khonus โ Goddess of Death and Darkness, because we all love a Goth Queen.
Worship of Khonus is treated similarly to the worship of Hades in ancient Greece; you pray to her when things are already going bad, and you pray for her to โ

Spot on for Rehara โ for Cassiel the hand was meant to represent mysticism!
But yes, they are a great example of "Opposites attract" ๐
"Often" as a close synonym as I could get โ Rehara and Cassiel spot a distant sign of magic in today's excerpt from Daughters of the Sword!

The Dragon God of the Lost Civilization, M, literally took the form of a Dragon โ and so existed within the material plane at times as well, in the heart of the temples devoted to him within their greatest ancient cities.

The Mountain Father exists in the chambers and halls within inhabited mountains.

Sometimes, all you **need** to add is enjoyment, is a moment of your characters existing as people, reaffirming who they are in that moment, or just showing what the world they exist in is like; they're the "establishing shots" of a story; from the sublime to the ridiculous, as my Lit teacher said.
06.08.2025 18:51 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That said, I also think it's something that's better thought about in editing and post writing than *as you're writing*, even in a late draft; it's better sometimes to write and get ideas on paper than to writers block yourself trying to find a scene that "add something".

This is something I'm trying very hard to be more conscious of in my second draft; it's a problem I've faced with my long form writing a lot, I think because I cut my teeth as a writer on short stories a couple of K long, not 90k manuscripts.
One of my favourite descriptions which I wrote down some time ago, I was very glad to be able to use it in this draft of Daughters of the Sword โ the dog/sword metaphor is one I'm proud of!

I love this concept! Originally, I had planned for the Gods to be more active in my stories, as they are in my D&D campaigns, but decided it detracted from the more important, human (or should I say Mortal?), stakes.

Similarly, the Dwarves believe that their magic โ which is a part of how they make and build things โ was passed down to them from their Gods.
06.08.2025 08:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0...but there's no true evidence to suggest this was the case. According to the priests of Rรผnwald, their Dragon-God taught them the secrets of Fire Magic when humans first arrived on Riviera.
06.08.2025 08:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The Gods are, generally, distant โ though there are historical records and stories of the gods becoming involved in mortal affairs, none are within living memory. It's said that the Gods choose champions sometimes, and supposedly one was present / responsible for the end of the Mage War...

80% of it I never glance at again though.
โ with some scholars going as far as to suggest that the twins and M may have been parts of a unified human religion at one time, as early as the Arrival of humans in Riviera. Why a schism may have formed is a matter of some debate...
05.08.2025 16:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Naturally, the monotheistic dragon god "M" of the lost civilisation was perceived to be "above all", a superior deity; compared to worshippers of the Twin Moons, archaeological evidence indicates that the Dragon God may have been associated with the Sun โ

For this, I'll turn to the Dwervic Pantheon โ those gods have a strict hierarchy, with the Mountain Father at the top as a paternal, Odin-esque figure; the Shield Maiden would be second, as a protective warrior akin to Thor. The only one outside of that heirarchy is He Who Knocks.
