The Dragon God of the Lost Civilization, M, literally took the form of a Dragon — and so existed within the material plane at times as well, in the heart of the temples devoted to him within their greatest ancient cities.

The Dwervic pantheon, on the other hand, tend to live underground, higher or lower depending on their status; He Who Knocks, for example, exists in the deepest and darkest tunnels beneath the ground. The Mountain Father exists in the chambers and halls within inhabited mountains.

Naturally the twin gods live on / in / are their respective moons; Lailus & Khonus occupy the sky together, with relatively synchronous cycles of waxing and waning.

Sometimes, all you **need** to add is enjoyment, is a moment of your characters existing as people, reaffirming who they are in that moment, or just showing what the world they exist in is like; they're the "establishing shots" of a story; from the sublime to the ridiculous, as my Lit teacher said.

That said, I also think it's something that's better thought about in editing and post writing than *as you're writing*, even in a late draft; it's better sometimes to write and get ideas on paper than to writers block yourself trying to find a scene that "add something".

This is something I'm trying very hard to be more conscious of in my second draft; it's a problem I've faced with my long form writing a lot, I think because I cut my teeth as a writer on short stories a couple of K long, not 90k manuscripts.

One of my favourite descriptions which I wrote down some time ago, I was very glad to be able to use it in this draft of Daughters of the Sword — the dog/sword metaphor is one I'm proud of!

I love this concept! Originally, I had planned for the Gods to be more active in my stories, as they are in my D&D campaigns, but decided it detracted from the more important, human (or should I say Mortal?), stakes.

For this, I'll turn to the Dwervic Pantheon — those gods have a strict hierarchy, with the Mountain Father at the top as a paternal, Odin-esque figure; the Shield Maiden would be second, as a protective warrior akin to Thor. The only one outside of that heirarchy is He Who Knocks.
