This is the sort of thing that procurement rules are meant to prevent. Those rules can make things slow and unwieldy in government, but reflect how politicized our system is. Other rich countries have figured out that a less politicized system lowers the risks of corruption.

I sometimes wonder if my sense of reality has been skewed by being so online. I go out and I encounter people living an entirely different timeline and with *no idea* about any of the things that feel so catastrophic to me and I can’t help but wonder if it’s me and I’ve gone insane

I try not to be a sore loser about my run, but the fact that they decided to not even mention I was running (let alone close to keeping up with endorsements and fundraising with the incumbent) absolutely reshaped the dynamics of the primary in a way that let him hold onto that seat in the general.

Like I knew people might not understand my particular open source company working with nonprofit research labs and what that would mean for my salary, but I didn’t at -all- think people assumed early 30s tech worker = 1%.

Just before I ran for office I met with a community organizer who asked me why I thought “more people like me” should be running. I got her to clarify that she thought I was part of the 1%, which was bonkers to me because I qualified for the first Covid stimulus check.

Also I’ve been to 3 Bruins games with my dad this season and I swear each time some (different) song comes on and he goes, “this is why I love [dj @senatorjohn.bsky.social]- he plays stuff like THIS.”
