Before ‘Blue Moon’ became a Rodgers and Hart classic, the melody had been used in the song ‘The Bad in Every Man’ for 1934’s ‘Manhattan Melodrama.’ Some context: the singer, Shirley Ross, is in black face here and supposedly passing for a black woman here.

So grateful I got to see Audra McDonald do this role on Broadway. It was a huge swing on an iconic role with oodles of history and she threw her whole body and soul into this performance. Congratulations and a happy closing to the company of ‘Gypsy’.

Like many JCS fans, I have been pouring over clips coming out of the Hollywood bowl concerts this weekend and been absolutely giddy. Everyone is extraordinary, but I’ve been coming back to Cynthia singing ‘Gethsemane’ over and over again. Incredible!

To the surprise of many (including myself) I am still alive. Script done and should start recording tomorrow. This was a toughie. Hope I can do this lady justice…
