The crux: Wentworth events assist the economy. Me picking my way round the rat infested (yes, people with cars, you don’t know about Sobeys rat problem) back of sobeys to get to a job, is not seen, valued, nor a accommodated. And I’m becoming angry. I hate the feelings.

I want to add that I’m in full support of the decision to protect ourselves from fire, but the blanket-nature of the decision has caused further harm to already difficult everyday life in Halifax. There are many here suffering, yet always and again, it is invisible and unseen.

Yesterday I walked an extra two miles getting to and from bus stops. This city depends on informal short cuts as infrastructure, because of lack of infrastructure. Thank goodness I can walk distances, but this is mainly hidden.

Nova Scotians told to stay out of the woods under new restrictions intended to prevent wildfires - Halifax Examiner As is the case with the province's burn ban, people who violate the restrictions face a $25,000 fine.

Here's Premier Tim Houston invoking the precautionary principle for fire bans while riding roughshod over the same principle for people moving outside of cars. Will listen to experts on occasion it seems #CarBrain www.halifaxexaminer.ca/province-hou...

In the end we have to ask if want to be the sort of city that shrugs its shoulders over road deaths, or the sort of city that tries to do better.

Yes, $25,000 is a lot. I’ll not risk it.

Foreground: I’ve absolutely no problem w decision to ban woodland activities.

BUT: Without car in Halifax, have to walk through/in woods to get to ill-placed bus stops. I have a woodland path to my bus stop, 10 mins. Or, walk way round on busy road with no crossings -29 mins.

I’m sorry I depressed everyone. It’s just hard here.

Irony is, if I were minted, owned an SUV, lived in the fashionably tree-lined avenues, and enjoyed my coffee at the corner bougee cafe, I probably would be entirely unaware how hard it is to live here.

Hah, it could be I suppose. It is perhaps the beginning of a letter of resignation, on a few levels.

Dear Halifax, I have grown weary trying to like you. Poor transit, lack of protection walking and cycling, an unaffordable centre. A potentially livable city, I have been here two years and I have given up trying to like you, and I am surviving you instead. Nice work, not.

Halifax councillors decry 'misinformation' from mayor, saying it undermines public trust | CBC News Some Halifax councillors say Mayor Andy Fillmore's recent comments about the roles of mayor and CAO are disconcerting and amount to "misinformation."

β€œFillmore…said the…municipal structure is blocking him from fixing issues he was elected to work on, like traffic congestion and affordability”

Where’s affordability if forced to buy a car, add to congestion & on a nationally comparatively low income to live here?

I was downtown yesterday and literally looking at the huge trucks rolling through and wondering what wisdom led to it being ok for heavy goods to just drive through a tourist area too. Lots of pedestrians. And bikes.

What I am learning about Halifax by walking and taking the bus, part two - Halifax Examiner Bike lanes, express buses, space for horses, and the Public Gardens.

My Morning File is late as I'm still on vacation brain. But today I wrote a part two to what I am learning about #Halifax by walking and taking the bus.

Plus, a bit on my visit to Big Tancook Island on Saturday. #NovaScotia

This is an excellent read, and now I want to go to Tancook. Meanwhile, there was one brief shining moment when Robin Gerus (HRM) declared that he would be riding the buses. He went quiet after that. That would be a follow up piece I would love to read.
