28.02.2025 01:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Title page of an article in the journal Environmental Communication RESEARCH ARTICLE "They Want to Kill Our Cows. That Means You're Next:" White Masculine Victimhood and the Green New Deal's War on Hamburgers David Rooney Moody Department of Communication, University of Texas-Austin, Austin, TX, USA ABSTRACT This article examines the conspiratorial and unfounded belief - promoted by right-wing figures, including Donald Trump - that the 2019 Green New Deal resolution sought to criminalize hamburger consumption. While previous environmental communication scholarship has suggested a disconnect between media representations of meat consumption and environmental harm, I argue that this connection has, in fact, persisted through a hamburger-synecdoche where performances of hamburger consumption act as a stand in for white masculine domination over the environment. Incorporating Mbembe's necropolitics alongside Johnson and Kelly's accounts of white masculine victimhood, I show how the hamburger-synecdoche doesn't reject or deny the ecological costs of meat but reframes those critiques as existential threats to white masculinity itself. As a result, even unsound claims to injury like hamburger criminalization are articulated as a coherent response to broader environmental crisis - but one which draws upon a long history of rationalizing dominion over nature through gendered and raced terms. They want to take away your hamburgers. This is what Stalin dreamt about but never achieved. (Sebastian Gorka) i have eaten up to 97 burger's a month no for me, i will eat what and how much i want. Big news, friends. I loaned my beloved pet elephant Topsy to Thomas Edison, he’s going to make a movie about her! She’s going to be a star! 🤩

However, there are a number of sites in CA with high levels and few other scattered sites around the US with medium/high levels and are colored in orange/red
1/ Influenza wastewater activity levels are currently low across the US, aside from conspicuous areas in CA where #H5N1 is spreading in dairy cows.
A deeper dive into the Wastewater Scan data paints a very concerning picture and should add to our sense of urgency.

I was massively attacked when I last said this (including on instagram and linked in because some folks are batshit) so naturally I say it again: the word “terrorist” is a racialized slur that people of conscience should stop using all together.

Traditional assumption in far-right studies was that Ireland was unique; no far right because nationalism is channeled into left-wing Republican parties (Sinn Féin). But the far-right is yet on the rise-Why?
