Captured in Murrell's Inlet, SC, along with the flora of the tree, a nice sky-blue background enhances the bird's features. From Allaboutbirds.org., Tufted Titmice look large among the small birds that come to feeders, an impression that comes from their large head and eye, thick neck, and full bodies. The pointed crest and stout bill help identify titmice even in silhouette. Soft silvery gray above and white below, with a rusty or peach-colored wash down the flanks. A black patch just above the bill makes the bird look snub-nosed.

Center frame, perched on a tree branch, facing away from viewer, their head turned left, their "blue head and eye goggles" visible. From allaboutbirds.org., A stocky small songbird with medium-length tail and fairly heavy, hooked bill and thick legs (compared to warblers). A moss-green bird with a bluish-gray head and crisp white underparts. The face is set off by clean white “spectacles” and throat. Underparts white, sides greenish yellow. Tail and wings blackish, with two white wingbars.

Happy new week friends... I love seeing Blue-headed vireos. In spring it's at the start of migration and in the fall, they mark the near end. Sad the season is almost over, but happy to see this beauty in my hood. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #nature #photography #eastcoastkin

I'm leaning towards the Blue Jays (lots of former Guardians players on the team) but happy someone other than Yankees is playing. Just home from an apple butter fest, whew! 40k peeps walking in small town.

Center right, looking right in a hole in the pine fauna, the immature Cooper's hawk perched for photos, before moving into the interior of the tree. The early morning sun also shone brightly on this bird. What's missing is the sound of Black-capped Chickadees sounding out the alarm this predator was in the tree with all the other hungry seed eating birds.

Center right of frame, perched upright, facing away from viewer but looking right sits a Hermit Thrush on the vine of a nearby bush. From Allaboutbird.org., Hermit Thrushes have a chunky shape similar to an American Robin, but smaller. They stand upright, often with the slender, straight bill slightly raised. Like other thrushes, the head is round and the tail fairly long. Note, dressed for winter, their usual cinnamon coloring is a darker with a hint of olive green for good measure.

Center frame, facing and looking left, standing upon the grassy plane of Howard Marsh Metropark, Bono, OH. From Allaboutbirds.org., The slender Buff-breasted Sandpiper, with its warm tones, neat streaking, and wide-eyed expression, is one of the most delicately beautiful of the shorebirds. Unlike most shorebirds, Buff-breasted Sandpipers forage in dry, grassy habitats, not wetlands. Sadly, extensive loss of grasslands along its migration route has contributed to heavy population declines. A small, delicately built shorebird with a fairly long neck, rounded head, and large eye. The bill is slender and short for a sandpiper bill (about the length of the head). At rest, the wingtips are about the length of the tail. Legs are fairly long. All plumages are bright buff overall, with fine black streaks on the crown and dark centers to the back and upperwing feathers, giving a neat, scaly appearance. The underwing flashes white in flight and in display, with a dark comma at the wrist (carpal joint). The bill is dark and the legs yellow.

Center left of frame, facing right on a leaf-filed branch, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet busily moves down the branch looking for bugs and larvae. From Allaboutbirds.org., Kinglets are tiny songbirds with relatively large heads, almost no neck, and thin tails. They have very small, thin, straight bills. Ruby-crowned Kinglets are olive-green birds with a prominent white eyering and white wingbar. This wingbar contrasts with an adjacent blackish bar in the wing. The “ruby crown” of the male is only occasionally visible.
