At least the Guards have made it to the Series in my lifetime (I even was at some of the games in 1995, although as a toddler so I obviously don’t remember), would love to see a win haha.

Also I now have so many opinions about some of the local Toronto ads that they run, after listening to games for days now. They’ve been cracking me up.

Yeah I’m getting really tired of the Guardians getting closer but not there. But this year I had more time to heal before the Series.

Even if you aren’t a baseball fan I recommend listening along tonight just to soak up the enthusiasm of these Toronto announcers, they’re so excited (assuming they don’t start losing).

Be a fake fan with me, turn in right at the end of the season just to soak up the joy. I sure need it lately!

I didn’t listen to Wednesday’s baseball game because I ended up working really late.

Gotta say the enthusiasm of the Toronto announcers today (possibly the last game) is sooo different from Tuesday’s game (since they’d been up so late the night before due to Monday’s 18 inning marathon)

Yeah I've got two canaries, a dog, and two cats under a collapsing ceiling, so even when I do go to work I'm just eaten alive by the anxiety. While trying to do very complex analyses very quickly to help this student meet this defense deadline (pushed up because of funding cuts). So anxious.

just kidding they pushed patching the moldy wet holes in my ceiling back until tomorrow, which'll be day 12 since I reported this health hazard 🙃

but at least that's because they've got someone hired to do a better job, versus the property manager trying his best on his own tonight. Supposedly.

oh yeah that would make me so mad, it's not like parking is easy to find around college towns (that's why I walk 6 miles to work and back every day, parking fees much too steep on campus).

I've been telling them daily. Getting the sense they don't care or don't understand what losing this kind of time means for a job that's dependent on my own personal productivity (I'm helping a graduate student finish drafts, less than 2 weeks until this thesis is due).

Unfortunately it sounds like the historical society is part of the problem, they're the ones taking their sweet time getting the approvals done (according to the property managers at least).

They're claiming they'll get complaints because it's in the historical district.

Which is apparently more relevant than my constant complaints about mold inside.

yeah I'm grateful these folks actually want to replace the roof (and that's what they're claiming is taking so long, to get all the approvals/permits/quotes in place) so it's an actual solution.

I just want a tarp in the meantime.

Because unlike them I do legitimately care about the interior of the house and its historical value, the fact that the ceiling above this is currently leaking moldy water onto it bums me out. bsky.app/profile/skwi...

That's why I've been begging for just a tarp on the roof and some sort of temporary barrier on the inside to protect me from moldy plaster falling from the ceiling. So they can do a better approved fix later, while a temporary bandaid protects me and my pets in the meantime.

My aggression worked and they're sending someone over this afternoon.

Of course I delayed going into work for hours (hoping they'd show up today, a possibility based on messages sent yesterday) and just got to my office and now I have to walk 3 miles back home immediately.

From what I can tell it's an investment property owned by an investment company (who cares only about profits), run by managers hired to maximize profits.

It's the insurance company that's trying to follow the historical laws. So they should care the original interior is getting moldy and gross.

I grew up north of here, in a rural town where high school sports were the only local option so people did attend the games. But here they've got, like, better league options. Although I guess not for as cheaply as a high school game.

Wild. I don't think my parents attended a single high school football game, but then again I didn't play football (but that would be, like, a few dozen parents at most?)

It bummed me out so much-- so many damp children, when tonight will be rain-free. And also Halloween.

Like, do they think all these young kids would rather go to a high school football game? Is that a thing around here? Or that traffic will be too bad for trick-or-treat?

There’s more leaking holes now

In typical SK fashion I sent a pretty aggressive message about how dangerous and unprofessional this is to not fix it and not even answer me.

Then 2 minutes later sent a “I’m really sorry for being rude but I’m really stressed about this because…”

The campus bridge I use to get to my office has been out for construction for weeks, I thought it was weird they did it during the busy semester.

Just now realizing as they open it back up they timed it for the weeks the football team was away, home this week.

Football schools are so weird lol.

Wish I was brave enough to withhold my $2000 rent this month but I also really don’t want to get evicted, hard enough to find a place around here

11 days and counting since I reported a ceiling hole. There is now a second moldy hole and both are leaking water.

Property managers are only answering every third text, saying they just now started to try to contact the historical society to get permission to fix the roof.
