When traffic flow is more or less continuous, the same number of drivers are going to wait briefly when the lights change. So why not have lights change immediately? Why does it matter which specific drivers are the ones waiting?

As you cycle back, the peloton should grow in number... a party peloton on the return. That'd be awesome! 🎉🚴🎉🚴‍♀️🎉🥰

I'd probably catch a train to Hull and rejoin the route as the return "party peloton" grows in number. I hope riders stick together south bound!

A sensible call by the organisers. #LEL2025 riders invited to return to London on the south bound route with the controls and volunteers waiting for them. Hopefully a better ride home.

I've read that tomorrow morning you'll be able to head home along the southern route with controls and volunteers ready for you.

The riders in Hessle have a head start on the return to London. 🚴🚴‍♀️🌬️

All the riders have been told to head back to the start. Those in Hessle have a head start! Like a staggered start... maybe everyone will arrive at London finish at the same time!

I see that #LEL2025 is shortened... riders advised to head back to the start. Still challenges ahead, but the conditions north are brutal...

None of this is breaking news to dot watchers - I've been crashed asleep since finishing my volunteering shifts. Looking at where tracked riders are paused:
Hawick 7

..if this translates to all riders, Richmond could be chaos!

I'm just waking up enough to catch up with #LEL2025 news and storm Floris. I love that the organisers have paused the entire event for at least 8 hours while the storm passes. I have been praying for all concerned. Looks like once the storm is over the ride will be glorious.

The dot tracker thingie shows around 60 riders held at Mickleton control, 20 at Brampton, 150 held at Richmond, 130 at Malton. Fair few riders still out on the road 'tween Malton & Richmond
