It's hard to run a big organisation with lots of competing stakeholders, funders and needs. But this event was always going to be used to gaywash Labour's actions and, whilst recognising some leaders used the platform to publicly criticise Labour's actions, I (also) think it was a mistake to attend.

Remember all that fulminating in the billionaire press about "free speech" (ie their freedom to abuse Muslims, trans people etc with impunity)? Now that people are being arrested for speaking about an issue of the utmost gravity, the self-appointed guardians of liberty have fallen strangely silent.

It’s deeply ironic that his government and I are currently engaged in active legal proceedings. I’m confident I’ve contributed more to LGBT+ equality in the past three years than any of his smiling invitees. The dissonance is hard to ignore.
