Every conversation I have with my family ends with me predicting some disaster happening soon and then admitting I’m talking about it happening in geologic time.

the adjunct problem
YouTube video by Angela Collier the adjunct problem

This (youtu.be/2AvfOhtmCZY?...) is an older @acollierastro.bsky.social video I must have missed, but it is brilliant in explaining the intensity of the bullshit of the adjunct system, for students and instructors.

White bookcover with multiple colored "stones" on it, the text reads: Turning to Stone: Discovering The Subtle Wisdom of Rocks by Marcia Bjornerud.

The book is award winning, holding the John Burroughs Medal for Natural History Writing.

It's easy to see why, with writing this clear and fascinating.

Started a new book. I've been fascinated with geology since the intro class I took my freshman year at Smith. This book puts me right back there again, curious to learn more with each page. It's SO good!

A geology book I recommend frequently is Timefulness by
Marcia Bjornerud. Nonfiction, looks at our relationship to time and how we understand it in geological terms. The author advocates for improving our understanding of geologic time as part of confronting our role in climate change.

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

The gastropod here is obviously not in the feeding position, but I always liked to think it was just rotated for some reason. Maybe the whole relationship was just fortuitous... Token is about 40 mm.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

Inside California’s race to document its insects: A conversation with Chris Grinter Christopher C. Grinter has spent much of his life surrounded by insects, though not in the way most people imagine. As Senior Collection Manager of Entomology at the California Academy of Sciences,…

Christopher C. Grinter of the California Academy of Sciences discusses documenting California’s insect diversity through the CalATBI.

From DNA barcoding to voucher specimens, he says these tools help track species amid rapid biodiversity loss.

Water will be the limiting factor in our continued existence. Here in western Canada it is becoming scarce in a number of towns and cities. McBride, Pincher Creek, and others.

Alberta has been under the thumb of evangelical Texas oilmen from almost our inception as a province. It’s going to take an awful lot of work to counter all those decades and decades of indoctrination by US influence and oil company propaganda that has so thoroughly infected the minds of generations

Deloitte has repeatedly shown themselves incapable of the integrity to faithfully conduct the work they are hired to do. The evidence will be obfuscated by "better" technology so it will become harder to positively identify the fraud. Yet government still has a duty to protect the public interest.

This is fraud, within a pattern of fraud. The product being purchased is a truth-finding intellectual pursuit, not merely a requisite number of not-demonstrably-false words. The fake citations are evidence of the original fraud, which is lying about the intellectual pursuit that did not occur.
