(1/11) If you live in NY, you’ve probably started seeing a new warning: “THIS PRICE WAS SET BY AN ALGORITHM USING YOUR PERSONAL DATA.” This mandatory disclosure went into effect late last year, and it’s the first attempt by a US state to grapple with a new generation of surveillance pricing.

“A grave risk of fatalities.”

that’s warning FAA gave to Pentagon about using anti-drone laser near flights

Then Pentagon and CBP used it anyway — without telling FAA.

The new requires coordination with FAA, but a top official decided to…ignore that.

Afterwards we exchange ciphertexts off-protocol because doing so on a public publishing platform is not ideal. We're watching the private data work as well for ways that it might be useful to DM's e.g. for cipher text transport or transcript.

This behaves entirely as expected. This is your record in our lexicon domain, just as your profile bio is your profile in the app.bsky.actor.profile record. If you want to direct conversations for you to a domain of your choosing, you can.

MLS accomplishes forward secrecy by using a symmetric ratchet (for each group member) to encrypt messages between users)

Great questions!

Given the header encryption, why do you want to make the notification a reference?

We use the push channel as a cipher text transport path. This lets small messages get through in places that block TLS but not APNS (free tiers of in-flight WiFi, for example)

13.02.2026 01:32 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Only ciphertexts go through the push channel. They also carry an address that maps to the conversation, so AES GCM of the message ciphertext plus address hides this information from the push service. iirc web crypto didn’t support Cha cha poly at the time and it’s a suitable symmetric cipher.

Android is a high priority for us. We aim to address the computer use case with native apps so Linux support is intended as part of desktop apps. Lots to read on our blog.

It is a necessary but not sufficient step to allow Germ compatible apps to exist. The lander is not the main point, it's just an affordance for the OS to launch an associated native app.

To really get this to work the viewer's app preference should override the profile being rendered - there was a viewer override url in an earlier design that was unneeded complexity for a first experimentation.

It is a goal, and is why we're leaving a lot of architectural aspects (like domains) user-defined.

We're product focused, so carving off a self-hosting feature has a bunch of open questions, but it's within reach.

Airspace closure followed spat over drone-related tests and party balloon shoot-down, sources say Pentagon officials had undertaken planning to use military technology near Fort Bliss, in El Paso, to practice downing drones.

Seems the Pentagon is testing anti-drone high-energy lasers near Fort Bliss in El Paso, and didn't feel this was dangerous enough to close airspace over.

The FAA administrator disagreed.

Last week, these lasers successfully protected the American people from a sinister children's party balloon.

For those unaware, Space has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years.
The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars.
It is only possible to travel to Mars when the planets align every 26 months (six month trip time), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (2 day trip time). This means we can iterate much faster to complete a Moon city than a Mars city.
That said, SpaceX will also strive to build a Mars city and begin doing so in about 5 to 7 years, but the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization and the Moon is faster.”

There was once a plan to run a bus lane and a protected bicycle lanes down Westwood Boulevard. It might have been one of Los Angeles' great promenades. Instead, NIMBYs killed the proposal, and now it's a round-the-clock car sewer where people randomly die in extremely violent ways.
