Three examples of tree trunks, incised with geometric symbols.
Scots pine trees in northern Fennoscandia are under risk from deforestation #WorldConservationDay 🏺 🌲
They are also incised with markings of cultural significance to the Indigenous Sámi, making their preservation both ecologically and archaeologically vital.

A page of text from a twelfth-century medical manuscript, with near brownish-black text, large initials in red and blue, and one very large "C" for "corpus" with elaborate foliate decoration.
A medieval manuscript page with only text, written by several different scribes in brown ink with red titles. It includes medical recipes and magical charms.
Current work/fun: lots of 12th c. English medical manuscripts, both for an essay on medical charms and a conference paper on monastic infirmaries.
One of the stars: Durham Cathedral MS Hunter 100, made in or near Durham Priory.
Shown here, fol. 85r & 118r, start and end of the medical texts.
