Reporters have more work to do on the '25 tracker: We request coroner records and cross-reference police reports as well as our coverage. So the numbers may change, and details will be added.

The number of homicides in the tracker has decreased every year. 2021: 388 people were killed.

In 1997, Missouri's death row population was at its peak, with 96. It has eight now (not counting Simpson; a judge still has to formally sentence him). Some court observers say Missouri likely won't carry out a single execution in 2026, because none of the court appeals is nearing exhaustion.
