There’s a Chess YouTuber I follow who makes such an effort to pronounce names properly when he recaps games.
The high level scene is international so making an effort to pronounce various Indian, Germanic, and Eastern European names shows respect. 🌏

Kseniia Petrova, a Russian scientist at Harvard Medical School, was detained at Logan Airport after returning from France and sent to an ICE detention in Louisiana, The Insider reports.

A big critic of Putin and the war in Ukraine, she may now be deported to Russia.

People who have been pushed even more to the left/progressive/ Dem socialist side after the last several years-- and after everything happening with the Dem establishment now.

Does accommodation work? Mainstream party strategies and the success of radical right parties | Political Science Research and Methods | Cambridge Core Does accommodation work? Mainstream party strategies and the success of radical right parties - Volume 11 Issue 1

Research from 2022 that every Democrat apologist should chew on:
β€œWe do not find any evidence that accommodative strategies reduce radical right support. If anything, our results suggest that they lead to more voters defecting to the radical right.β€œ

A gorgeous portrait of the White House entirely aflame, the smoke billowing and the flames lighting up the night sky. It sparks deep patriotic ferver. This is what democracy looks like.

Also there's a white button with blue text below the portrait. The text reads "Learn more" and if clicked it takes you to the menu of a local brewhouse.

If you're wondering about the vibe in Canada right now, I just got served this ad for a brewhouse that is just a portrait of the White House being burned down. No text, just a bigass picture of the White House burning and a link directly to their menu lolol

An online review of a local clown says: β€œNot what I had hoped for
Disappointed. We agreed he would bring balloons for $20.
He showed up with 3 or 4 saying one got away from him.
Spent time playing a video game. Walked on the bowling alley - and fell down (needed to have the bowling alley shoes). Clothing seemed unkept. Clown face makeup was
scant.”

The Clown Paradox: the more negative the online review of a clown is, the funnier the clown sounds

Point out things are illegal not from a belief that the courts will save us (they almost certainly won’t) but because it’s important to not shift toward an authoritarian mindset by allowing them to normalize illegal shit

What’s a technology that you think is overhyped?

I’m going to give a sideways answer to this, which is that the venture capital business model needs to be understood as requiring hype. You can go back to the Netscape IPO, and that was the proof point that made venture capital the financial lifeblood of the tech industry.

Venture capital looks at valuations and growth, not necessarily at profit or revenue. So you don’t actually have to invest in technology that works, or that even makes a profit, you simply have to have a narrative that is compelling enough to float those valuations. So you see this repetitive and exhausting hype cycle as a feature in this industry. A couple of years ago, you would have been asking me about the metaverse, then last year, you would have asked me about Web3 and crypto, and for each of these inflection points there’s an Andreessen Horowitz manifesto.

It’s not simply that one piece of technology is overhyped, it’s that hype is a necessary ingredient of the current business ecosystem of the tech industry. We should examine how often the financial incentive for hype is rewarded without any real social returns, without any meaningful progress in technology, without these tools and services and worlds ever actually manifesting. That’s key to understanding the growing chasm between the narrative of techno-optimists and the reality of our tech-encumbered world.

I remind myself several times a day that the people who are out to destroy me *want* me to be in perpetual reactive mode.

As urgent as everything is, it is incumbent on me not to live reactively. I will not let them run me, even if they are currently in charge of my planet.
