I knew my grandmother had a sister and 2 brothers. I did NOT know until yesterday that she had another sibling who died around age 4 from a disease that can now be avoided bc of vaccines.
Knew that my great grandfather had a sister and a brother. Did not know he was one of 10+.
Vaccines work.

I finally, after 21 years, paid off my completely worthless student loan. I imagine that even though I paid it off in full direct from my bank account, they are going to stall processing it for another few days so they can get more money from me (even if only spare change).

June 12 is Loving Day — when interracial marriage finally became legal in the U.S. "Loving Day" celebrates the historic ruling in Loving v. Virginia, which declared unconstitutional a Virginia law prohibiting mixed-race marriage — and legalized interracial marriage in every state.

Been on a break. Will probably login on Wednesday. Start looking around. I think I might make my 2nd vault dweller "Bob" into a ghoul when the time comes. Still trying to get all of the Steam Achievements. Only 8 away (though I am sure more will come with new expansion.) I hope the gameboard rocks!

Also, slave-owning Native American territories within the US had slavery AFTER the 13th Amendment. So, for Freemen, the 13th did NOT free them and they were still considered property. For Freemen, freedom came when all slave-owning Native Nations agreed to the ratified US treaty on 06/14/1866.

But remember that there are a whole lot of African Americans whose history was not shaped by this--who were STILL slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation. This was a reality.
So celebrate Juneteenth for what it is.
But do not celebrate it for what it is not.
It is NOT the end of US slavery.

Juneteenth celebrates the liberation of slaves from seceding states ONLY. It is a cause for celebration for those whose history was shaped by this liberation. My great great grandfather was freed from his plantation by Union soldiers, and became a Union officer's horse groom for the rest of the war.

Sigh.
The "Emancipation Proclamation" was a war document and a war decision. It cut off the seceding states' access to labor. It was NOT a Get-Out-Of-Slavery-Free card.
Unfortunately.
So many schools in the US are still teaching the much-abridged and edited version of history.

And yes, the 13th made a new slavery with the prison system. And yes, forms of slavery existed in the US (states & terrs.) and Native American territories incl Alaska and Hawaii until the early 1900s. But chattel slavery as outlined in the US Constitution ended with the 13th Amendment on 12/18/1865.

Sigh.

Juneteenth is a SOUTHERN holiday. Specifically a seceded states holiday. Bc that announcement in TX ONLY applied to seceded states and not to the slave-owning states that did NOT secede like DE, MD, MO, and KY.

Still MoviePass, MovieCrash made me very angry. I really hope both Lowe and Farnsworth get 20 years each. But they are rich white men in America, and we all know that that combination is stronger than Kevlar and smoother than Teflon. They will probably be fined for a few thousand dollars if that.

Watched the new documentary on Max called MoviePass, MovieCrash. I wish Stacey Spikes all the success in his endeavor. If successful, it can save the theater industry which has been dying a slow death since Covid. The "new" MoviePass under his leadership looks like it works!

The Dems need to motivate the Dems/Libs/Progressives to show up. And they are failing. Few things will sink this election faster than the "protest votes."🙄

Saw this thing--a therapy adjacent program 80 mins once a week w/4 other folks and a therapist moderator who play video games. Seemed kindof cool. $30/session. Not individualized, but group was sortof setup w/similar folks. Done through Discord.
Alas, none of these groups play FO76.
