This doesn't mean they're implemented the same way or have the same effect on gameplay in those older games. Mechanics don't exist in a vacuum. They can be more or less emphasized in design. Simple existence of a mechanic is not the same.

I'm also just really tired of the attempted gotchas in general when trying to discuss this stuff. It doesn't have to replicate every mechanic 1-1 to have been influenced. Souls didn't need to invent those mechanics to be the emulated touch point it's become. That's not how influence works.

There really are people that just don't understand that "camera lock-on and i-frame dodge/parry every attack" wasn't always the default melee combat in every video game and get really upset when you point out that Souls games being super popular probably had something with this shift. Idgi.

I don't think you fight contrarianism or irony poisoning by going in on a different type of that thing. There are more interesting things to say than "good or bad" too but, man, not every opinion needs to be new or novel. It just needs to be real.

Are the style specific skills more effective than the non gold generic ones? Like Late Surger Straightaways vs Straightaway Adept for example
