I used SNAP for a couple of years when I was serving in AmeriCorps VISTA, then stopped the next several years because I feared the potential of clawback after seeing peers have their paychecks garnished after flawed county audits.

I was making less than 20k annually and working three PT jobs.

1) Fuck these racist shits.
2) SNAP can be used for food from grocers, that's it. You can't even buy a slice of pizza from the corner, or for some toilet paper or soap, or for diapers for an infant.
3) Current oversight of SNAP already drives away people in need from applying for their benefits.

The actual finding here is that a huge percentage of the population believes things that are not true. Democrats objectively did not spend significant time on climate change or LGBTQ issues in the last election campaign.

This is good, but when people talk about this I want to emphasize: we have not run out of money for SNAP. The money is there, it has been allotted and saved specifically for this instance. as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

this is something that individual members of Congress could do tomorrow. The government is shut down so they could use their district offices. I suggested in January that they turn those offices into full on community centers where people could find each other re: mutual aid etc...

BIPOC folk of course also have this unconscious skill set, but white queer and trans folk are a bit better at recognizing the more subtle signs due to greater daily exposure to white racists and fash, including when they are casual/relaxed.

If you genuinely were unable to recognize a Totenkopf at a glance, you need to befriend white queer and trans anti-fascists/anti-racists who come from predominantly white areas.
We early to recognize fash and how to spot someone at an event because they seek to cause harm as a matter of survival.
