What a great week at ArcticNet's ArcticChange 2024!

On the ground, we are also seeing this thaw-related greening signal, through an increase in shrubs and a decrease in other ecologically and culturally important cover, like lichens. 🦌

We used historical air photos from as early as 1948 to assess change in palsas and peat plateaus through time. We found rapid degradation and increasing fragmentation of landforms through time, linked to regional warming and local greening.

I gave a talk at ArcticNet's ArcticChange 2024 conference on the warming, thawing, and greening of permafrost peatlands in coastal Labrador and how this is impacting wildlife habitat and traditional Inuit and Innu practices. #AC2024
