"You don't have to die to become a ghost." Marge's body and the couch are gone, but her face stares blankly out of the wall.

Subtext is great and all, and analyzing stories through different lenses can be valuable, but it doesn't fix the issues with the actual text. Textually, this is a story that whitewashes history in damaging ways and goes out of its way to flatter the creator's ego.

Also lesser complaint but it sucks that the whole show is just Miranda jerking himself off by saying "I'm Hamilton, look at how smart and hot Hamilton was, that's me, everyone was horny and jealous of him just like me."

We're not allowed to talk about Washington's slaves, or Hamilton working in the horrific sugar plantation slave trade, or the Schuylers being plantation heiresses, and so on. Instead we push it so far into the background that it disappears over the horizon, and we can pretend it was never THAT bad.

Hamilton is the neolib gold standard. Black bodies are being lifted up to literally sing about how great their white oppressors are. But in the story they tell, their ancestors are made entirely invisible. They're being used to push the narrative that racism is over, because Washington is Black now.

I'll never forget the disgust I felt at Daveed Diggs' cute little wink and nod about Sally Hemings, the enslaved woman Jefferson started assaulting when she was only 14. Which, if memory serves, is the only time a Black person is even mentioned by name in the whole show. And the audience LOVED it.

Miranda is a hit-or-miss composer but I won't go so far as to say Hamilton is all misses. Leslie Odom Jr. is phenomenal.

That's the end of the nice things. Whole show is a bizarre ego trip that whitewashes US history while using Black and brown actors as set dressing. And LMM is a disaster on stage
