Another photo that’s not mine, think this was U2 at Elland Road, 1990. Or possibly the Happy Mondays the following year.

1908, the Leeds City away game at Lincoln City was stopped for a short while after part of the main stand was blown into a neighbouring field during play at Sincil Bank injuring 5 supporters. Leeds City lost 5-0.

Just seen the memory lane website has closed down. The website had over 10,000 photos of Leeds United, some which had rarely been seen. Such a shame a good source of LUfC history has gone. If I knew it was going to close I’d have saved more of them.

Watch St. Luke's Parish Gazette - BFI Player The congregation and activities of a typical Church of England parish church between the wars, including a very sporting Scouts group, football, camaraderie and much whimsy.

From 3 mins 50 secs there’s a short clip of St Lukes Church Football team (possibly known as Beeston Hill Parish Church). The pitch was on Beeston Rd with the junction of Sunnyview Gardens. The Pullman’s building can be seen in the background.

I often walk past this grave on the way to work, on the outskirts of Lincoln. One of the founding members of Rangers, McBeath ended up working in a poor house in Lincoln, buried in an unmarked grave. Rangers fans paid for a headstone to be placed by his resting place.

Irish Leeds City players shared lodgings on Parkfield View in Beeston during the 1911 season, with landlady Ellen Norton. See the house listed as having four rooms, unbelievable to think of players sharing a bedroom.

Harrison V Part 1
YouTube video by realthedeal33 Harrison V Part 1

Tony Harrison, V, uses footage of the crowd at Elland Road during the 80’s, in part two. The poems wrote about his family grave in Holbeck Cemetery at the top of Beggers Hill/the quarry in Beeston. Great poem. should have been taught in schools in the 90s

A proposed new relief road is planned to link Elland Road with the newly constructed Lowfields Road (yet to be named Lowfields Road at the time). It is hoped the new road would help with congestion on Elland Road following Leeds United games. The plans were drawn in 1925.

For a short few years during the 1930s the Leeds Oaks Baseball team shared the Elland Road Greyhound track. Mascots Jack Howson and Billy Roberts are shown ahead of the game against the Sheffield Dons, May 1937. Sheffield failed to score a run in reply to Leeds six.
