Is it wrong when Madelyne tries to throw their baby off a building? Maybe. Do I support her anyways? I have to!!

A nude featureless figure bathed in Phoenix flame reaches out. Caption reads "Form without feature...little more than a mannequin...nothing to be afraid of...yet fo Madelyne's horror...when the figure reaches out to Scott...in yearning supplication..." Cyclops embraces and kisses the figures lipless face "he responds gladly with an eager wholehearted passion he never felt for her." Cyclops reaches toward an angel winged Maddie clutching their infant son. "Time to lose the wings Maddie. You were never meant to have them anyway. You can't fly. You're not special like us. You're only human." Scott tears off Maddie's wings and tosses them over his shoulder

"Can't keep him either. He's a mutant sweetheart. He should be raised by his own kind." Scott takes their baby and hands it to the featureless figure. "see how badly he looks. You wouldn't take that away from him would you?" Maddie: "How can you do this? I love you!" Cyclops "I know and I'm sorry, but I loved someone else first. And best." Scott removes Maddie's hair in one motion like a wig and puts it on the living mannequin. "Her needs take priority. There that's better." Maddie screams in protest and Scott removes her lips. "A few more details pulled from the copy and the original will be restored." He removes Maddie's eyes silently weeping and gives them to Jean

"I love Jean Grey, Maddie. Always have, always will when I thought she was dead I felt like someone ripped out my heart. It was wrong of me to turn to you to take her place." The verdant mountain background fades to white space. "I never meant to hurt you but once I discovered Jean was alive I had to go back. I'll never lose her again. Goodbye Maddie." Cyclops, Jean, and Baby Nathan disappear in a keyhole shaped pillar of radiant light. Maddie is alone in a desert wasteland. She has no facial features or clothing. Caption: She would scream but she has no mouth. A nothing person. In a nowhere place. Abandoned and alone.

In one of X-Men's most sci-fi soap operatic twists Cyclops copes with the death of Phoenix by meeting, marrying, & having a child with a woman identical to Jean named Madelyne. When Jean is found alive, we get a traumatic dream sequence in which Scott gives everything Maddie ever was back to Jean.

At the 12 second mark, that camera operator called an audible and just said "fuck it, the lane is clear, no tripping hazards, I'm winning a Sports Emmy for cinematography right now"
