In IG, go to Settings and Activity, then Content Preferences, then Political Content. It's off by default. IG settings affect Threads. They're not great, but the bar is low.

And you can control that with a setting in Instagram. It's stupid and hard to find. Here is certainly better, but Threads is better than the bad place. I'm using it to transition until they get here.
