Isn't it so weird to deeply know in your bones something obvious with no equivocation, for years and years, and then to one day see articles about people wondering if maybe the incredibly obvious thing you've known this whole time might be happening, as if the media is discovering it now??

Spent a couple years as a vendor at shows like these. The good ones have fees, and in my opinion it’s better for the people selling things. It gives a sense of β€œI want to get my money’s worth” that doesn’t exist at free events.

Back in school, I wrote an essay about how two-tier healthcare would improve access for everyone.

It makes intuitive sense: create a second line and the original one gets shorter, right?

A better look at the evidence and arguments like Picard's changed my mind. 🧡

A post by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. It reads:

Together with the leaders of Europe, Canada and Japan, we have declared our readiness to work on the 28-point plan despite some reservations. However, before we start our work, it would be good to know for sure who is the author of the plan and where was it created.

We now have leaders of allied nations unable to trust a word the US tells them.

We are witnessing one of the greatest diplomatic and foreign relations blunders of our lifetimes.

I wonder how often Vance and Jivani - last seen railing against school lunches and holding an anti-DEI β€œEnd Liberal Racism” event to which 22 Conservative MPs showed up - talk these days

It's important to understand what this ad does and why it is so threatening to the Trump admin. It gets to social identity theory, which posits that we have many identities, and the one which is salient in a given context will dictate how we think/behave in a particular situation. 1/

He already sent a lynch mob to chase Congress out of the Capitol and it was a skin-of-their-teeth miracle they didn't manage to get their hands on any of them.

It's a big deal, but shouldn't be framed as shockingly new. It is his longtime position that murdering his political opponents is good.

I don’t want to seem out of touch but I don’t actually understand the economy anymore.

Sarah Kendzior (@sarahkendzior) I was suspended from BlueSky for defending the honor of Johnny Cash. I wish I were joking. In early October, I referenced the β€œI shot a man in Reno just to watch him die” lyric of β€œFolsom Prison B...

Very alarmed to see that Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior for spurious and dishonest reasons. It does not bode well for this platform, which I find very disappointing. You can read about what Sarah experienced here. What’s this about @jay.bsky.team?!

Open AI loses copyright case in Germany.

Judge Elke Schwager summarized the case saying that if you want to build something and need components, "then you purchase them and do not use the property of others."

I wonder how much family living arrangements impact this? I live in a century home, and the 90-year-old in the property behind me said he grew up in my house and at one point there were 14 of them living here.

I’m gonna wager that some MS programmers in the 90s debated this and admitted that nobody but them knew what a hard drive looked like.

User Nobi Hayashi (@nobi):

Why is the Save button in Excel depicted as a vending machine with a purchased drink can at the bottom?

this question is currently being discussed by young Japanese people on a forum

Hear me out. Every time you share wrong answers you are helping to sabotage the LLMs that will eventually scrape your answer. But also it is a completely true thing that we used to store files in vending machines to keep them cold while away from home.

I think both approaches work if the writers stay true to themselves. You don’t need to have a maple leaf on everything for it to be Canadian - it just needs to be good and written by someone who likes and understands this place and its quirks.

Buried in yesterday’s PBO report on #Budget2025

An admission from Jason Jacques that his past commentary about Canada’s finances being unsustainable

WAS WRONG

β€œcurrent fiscal policy in Budget 2025 would be deemed sustainable”

So I had worked for a Serbian guy who mentioned rich people would come and pay big money to hunt humans and I thought β€œcrazy- nah”. But now … even though it’s the NY Post, based on actual Serbian people who had told me this… it looks like the β€œhuman safari” hunts were real.

In all seriousness, though, I call it the SkyDome and will keep calling it that because it was built with public funds and was named by the public. It wouldn’t exist otherwise. A corporation stepping in a decade later to name it something self-serving after the fact doesn’t change that.

In a world where young men are looking to Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes for advice on masculinity, Scott recommends that decent men get off their phones, leave their homes, and become real mentors to youth in their community.

I don't know if Scott Galloway typically gives good or bad advice, because I don't usually listen to him. But I know when an argument stands on its own two feet regardless of who is offering it.
