It's just one of several projects that will provide schools, community centers, and transit-connected affordable rentals to Vancouver.
Until now, hyper-NIMBYism has made the city into a time capsule of unaffordable single-family homes.
Next to come will be...
Rising rapidly: 3 towers, at the foot of #Vancouver's Burrard Bridge, that will become heart of Canada's densest urban neighborhood.
The project is called SenΜΓ‘αΈ΅w, after the indigenous village that settlers burnt to the ground in 1913.
The builders are Squamish people.

High-speed rail, which has already transformed Europe and Asia, is coming to North America. But the newsletter's about more than bullet trains, shinkansens + TGVs.
I'll be posting dispatches about the latest in sleeper trains, budget services, + regional and inter-city rail around the world.
Need some positive news?
Around the world, a passenger rail renaissance is well under way.
I document the train-love in my weekly newsletter HIGH SPEED.

MIT Study: average walking speed of pedestrians in 3 northeastern U.S. cities has increased 15 percent since 1980. The number of people lingering in public spaces declined by 14 percent in that time as well.
