New achievement unlocked; ride through a tack failure. Stirrup broke mid canter.

Finally got a chance to watch. I share the surprise, but I fear the effect on my saddle. He rides ina much more "ala bridal " saddle than I do, and I wonder if that would change things

Experiments complete. Lance starts on the lower left, rises in an arc/half circle to the middle right, then descends to couch. Oddly, must be nearly horizontal to avoid smacking my own horse.

Aware of; watch occasionally. I will look for mail breeches.

Today's equestrian insight. Full seat britches and full seat canter do not mix well

Thanks again. Riding today I realized that it might be possible to modify the boar's tusk- start low on the right, thrust to opponent's face. If the opponent has a weapon then reverse and retract to what I'd call _hasso no kamae_ (high right guard). Have to build a simulator.

23.10.2025 17:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The other alternative would be to reverse the boar's tusk - to start it low on the right side of my body (and the horse's). Then it would have to rise towards the opponent's face and then retract to the high right.

Any build plans? Looks like a standard Barrell suspended in a framework. No saddle. (this is not a criticism, just trying to figure out.)

Unless someone has better advice, I'm going to explore the hypothesis that the mounted boar's tusk can be executed with a thrust to the opponent, followed by a retraction to the upper right guard position. @thetavernknight.bsky.social any advice?

23.10.2025 12:39 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

On foot the boars tusk terminates naturally; if the motion of the sword is ties to the motion of the hips, both will end in a natural way.

23.10.2025 12:39 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm uncomfortable with that; I lack confidence that the beat, disconnected from the hips, has the power to displace the attack.

23.10.2025 12:39 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The simple answer is for the boar's tusk to take more circular motion around the horse's neck and to disconnect the motion of the sword from the motion of the hips.

When mounted I see two problems. The first is that there is a horse in the way. The second, closely related is on foot the block seems controlled by/enabled by a hip switch. Hip switch is going to cue the horse to take action.

Pondering Fiore's mounted boar's tusk (wiktenauer.com/wiki/Fiore_d...). On foot the beat seems to rely on a the sword traversing the width of the body - as the sword rises from lower left to upper right it beats the opponents blade. ) /1

strongly agree with everything you've said. But there is another benefit. The barrel horse open Roßfechten to those who will not ride without a helmet. (I think the chance of a rotational fall from a barrel horse is acceptable)

Thank you very much. I'll share this locally and see if there is any interest.

Mounted archery practice again today. I'm thrilled that my mind is split between "how can I ride this better" and "how can I make this shot". Did adequately at both, but not well at either. Need to make more opportunities for practice.

I've set myself a daily challenge of five good shots with the javelin (sticking in the target). Today it only took me 25 tries to get 5 good shots. Key seems to be to point my elbow and the opposite hand at the target and for my throwing hand to pass by my ear.

The prong of the ming ring tries to press against the squashed flat finger rest; it isn't a big impediment, but it doesn't help. I should try with my manchu ring

While I like my new arrows, with the new style speed nock (I can't find a name or image, but there is a finger sized flat area between the prongs of the nock and the base of the arrow - makes it _really_ easy to grab and load) they aren't good for speed rounds with a ming ring.

Arrow transfixing a green plastic garden stake

Yesterday's folly - I have some garden stakes that I'm using to build a backdrop for the targets. I managed to put an arrow through one. Don't leave anything in the target zone.

Achievement unlocked! 8 arrows in 30 seconds. That will only happen if I make no errors in loading, and if I have the arrows prepared in the correct sequence. /1

Your images have generated some interest here to see if we could try this at a future practice. When I described it to people, the initial reaction was that pierching on a mounting block was unstable. But _seeing_ it was persuasive.
Thanks again.

Something similar to what you've posted for the mounting block - how they are positined, how they engage, what exercise is plausible, etc. The _image_ is much more persuasive than the text.

I wish there were a way to filter bsky to screen out all video skeets. I feel like the tools are there, but I just haven't figured out how to do it.

I don't recall where rossfechten is in the experimental->mature->normal rules cycle, but we are allowed to work rossfechten. I'd be happy to wear armor on the ground - I just can't figure out how to wear both a helmet and a mask at the same time without compromising the protective value of either.

I'd be happy doing it at the walk; I need to understand the timing at the walk before trying anything else.
