Portland DSA supports a total restriction on any new liquid fuel infrastructure at the CEI Hub along with a managed decline of existing fuel storage capacity.

We must do everything we can to make Portlanders and our environment safe from a world-historic petrochemical disaster in our city.

Portlanders will not be cowed by this administration. When undignitaries like Kristi Noem visit for their photo ops and get mocked by people in animal costumes it’s because that’s the level of respect they deserve. Doing the work of mass deportation is the least honorable thing a person can do.

Portland City Council member Angelita Morillo humorously criticizes Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, leading to laughter from CNN's Boris Sanchez.

Extremely powerful rally happening at City Hall right now.

@councilorgreen.bsky.social and dozens of US military veterans are denouncing illegal actions of the Trump Administration and encouraging National Guardsmen to refuse to follow illegal orders.

When I refused to be interviewed for this story, it was due to NYT’s role as a main mouthpiece for Israel’s genocide. But I also knew that they would write a lazy and dishonest story that would do more harm than good, a narrative that they had already cooked up before interviewing anyone

interesting how the much-hyped "tax flight" phenomena is always reported as two sides having a subjective debate, and not as something that either actually exists in observable reality or not. even in the fancy paper! (maybe especially there?)

With Newfound Sway in City Hall, Portland’s Democratic Socialists Hope to Redefine the City’s Priorities How do you solve a problem like an unprecedented city budget deficit? I’ll end this by actually sharing the Mercury article, lol.

More importantly, it was highly irresponsible of the @nytimes.com to publish this article (which I know they’ve been working on for months) right now. It sends a message to an unaware public that the socialists in City Hall are somehow responsible for current national attacks on Portland.

What Happens When Socialists Are in Charge? Portland Offers a Glimpse.

This article has a lot more important problems so I feel stupid saying this…but umm…the Mercury wrote and published the first major article about the DSA councilors back in June. Of course it isn’t the local reporting linked or mentioned here.

Read this thread from a great Portland reporter! The New York Times running this story today is absolutely calculated. It has been positioning Portland for years as a progressive villain. Also: why send a reporter from the Bay when the NYT has at least two reporters who actually live in Portland.

Waking up to some careless parachute journalism from the NYT. Really frustrating that @kellen.bsky.social chooses to write that "some top filers" have left Portland due to the Preschool for All tax but neglects to mention that the number of overall filers went up by many thousands in that period.+

Trump has sent the military to occupy portland in a horrifying authoritarian escalation and thankfully willamette week knows the real priority right now is to juice one more story out of the fact that public records laws haven’t updated to reflect our electeds text each other on Microsoft teams

Continued escalation from Trump this morning. I need to hear a forceful response to this from Gov. Kotek, assuring Oregonians we will not tolerate this level of illegal intimidation. To service-members: remember you do not have to follow an unlawful order such as implied below.

Trump has escalated his attack on Portland by deploying more Feds to Portland for the purpose of intimidating and silencing our community, so that we comply in advance with his fascist regime. Don’t acquiesce. Join an org, talk to your neighbors and build solidarity networks to keep each other safe.

Coverage of Labor Against Genocide Rally:

β€œAll over the world, we are seeing organized workers, unions, dockworkers refusing to handle weapons that are going to Israel, divesting their pension funds from complicit companies,” Katbi said. β€œAnd so we really wanted to bring together unions locally.”

One Thing Has Changed in Portland City Hall: The Socialists are Setting the Agenda For the first time in living memory, Portland in effect has two viable political partiesβ€”and the second one isn’t the Republicans.

WWeek wrote 10 million words about how the PBA and Governor Kotek are in full crisis because business lobbyists aren’t running city hall like the natural order demands.

We’re seeing media and elite meltdowns like what is in happening in NYC over Zohran.

And I think it’s irresponsible to talk about wealth taxes without mentioning that Trump just passed the largest tax cut for the wealthy in US history. We are living under a fascist federal government. If we want to have a functioning city and state, wealthy residents will need to pitch in more.

16.07.2025 20:58 β€” πŸ‘ 47    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I also think the framing of DSA vs the Democrats, while welcome, is not quite right here. It should really be DSA vs Metro Chamber, who are quoted like 10 times and have had a stranglehold on Portland city hall forever, so much so that they effectively control the city’s economic development agency

16.07.2025 20:50 β€” πŸ‘ 60    πŸ” 15    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

There were lots of hyper specific questions about city level policy, to which my answer was always, ask our DSA electeds. That’s why they’re in city hall. We’re busy organizing the base. She did not include my quote where I called them β€œreal sickos” for all their policy knowledge
