More importantly, it was highly irresponsible of the @nytimes.com to publish this article (which I know they’ve been working on for months) right now. It sends a message to an unaware public that the socialists in City Hall are somehow responsible for current national attacks on Portland.

One Thing Has Changed in Portland City Hall: The Socialists are Setting the Agenda For the first time in living memory, Portland in effect has two viable political parties—and the second one isn’t the Republicans.

WWeek wrote 10 million words about how the PBA and Governor Kotek are in full crisis because business lobbyists aren’t running city hall like the natural order demands.

We’re seeing media and elite meltdowns like what is in happening in NYC over Zohran.

And I think it’s irresponsible to talk about wealth taxes without mentioning that Trump just passed the largest tax cut for the wealthy in US history. We are living under a fascist federal government. If we want to have a functioning city and state, wealthy residents will need to pitch in more.

I also think the framing of DSA vs the Democrats, while welcome, is not quite right here. It should really be DSA vs Metro Chamber, who are quoted like 10 times and have had a stranglehold on Portland city hall forever, so much so that they effectively control the city’s economic development agency

There were lots of hyper specific questions about city level policy, to which my answer was always, ask our DSA electeds. That’s why they’re in city hall. We’re busy organizing the base. She did not include my quote where I called them “real sickos” for all their policy knowledge
