If it's dark and twisted, send it my way. Joy is important even in the bleakest of times - small joys too. Bad at rules. Grumpy old lady, but not old. Self-medicating with books.

There's a few themes I would have liked to have seen explored in more detail but there's only so much one can fit in, so it's not really a complaint.

I'd completely forgotten it would've been Trump election time.

I didn't mind the swearing at all, all for it. I have to admit there were times when my faith in the story wavered but I'm so glad I kept going right to the end. Loved the illustrations too.

Not sure why the world is conspiring to put me off reading Flesh but it's doing a bloody good job.

Yes as if refugees didn't have it hard enough... my God, for Bad News for Refugees I visited asylum seekers' homes in the UK to see how they lived and interview them - what we need is more of the TRUTH on our screens and in our papers. www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctt...

A Harrowing Escape From the Drone-Infested Hellscape of Ukraine’s Front Lines

A wounded πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ soldier’s journey to medical help now often takes as long as it did in the bleakest days of World War I. This isn’t just the result of drones or other modern weapons. Russian drone operators ignore the legal protections meant for medics. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/05/m...

I should go to the beach a lot more often. Harder to be annoyed with things out there. Good sand art today too.

Some good news this morning - exports of Xinjiang tomatoes have collapsed. Last year I worked with the BBC to expose how XJ tomatoes produced with forced labour were making their way to UK supermarkets via Italy. 🧡

Illegal migration isn't tearing this country apart, but our obsession with it is. It's an obsession fuelled by our media and politicians. Both profit from blowing the problem out of all proportion. It's been happening for decades, but never more so than now

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ One of the best bits of journalism last week I saw was @pravda.ua doing a 20 minute video compilation of Zelensky's various statements about needing to stamp out corruption in Ukraine over the years - from his 2019 campaign trail to now. No comments were necessary.

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Morally awful, administratively impossible & expensive.. and politically, the reverse of Starmer's panicked conference speech. A govt completely at sea, terrified & incoherent, throwing basic principles overboard in desperation
