Maya Gaylor, co-supervised by Prof. Lupien in Microbiology and Immunology, will be working on our antimicrobial projects.
Dr. Alana Rangaswamy is a recent graduate from the Keillor lab @uottawa.ca and will focus on enzyme and depolymerization efforts.
Admin got up yesterday at 7 in the morning to perform a transformation that probably didn't work. One (1) colony on the plates. This is the #chembiosky life.

In Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, we replace an enzyme-vulnerable amide bond with a thiazole to produce potent antiplasmodial and antimalarial pantothenamide mimics. A collaboration between the Auclair lab @mcgill.ca and the Saliba lab at ANU.

🧵
Another day, another paper 😌
13.08.2025 17:13 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0- Our pantothenamide mimics avoid degradation by pantetheinases thanks to the bond substitution
- Sub-micromolar antiplasmodial activity in vitro
- Excellent selectivity for plasmodial enzymes vs. human enzymes
- Computational analysis included to gain insight into SARs
Key notes:
- Made possible by Annica Chu, Dr. Mina Nekouei, Dr. Blue Lan, and Dr. Alexandre Pierret of the Auclair lab, in collaboration with Xiangning Liu from the group of Prof. Kevin J. Saliba
- These molecules follow the parasite CoA pathway and become potent, low-cytotoxicity antimetabolites
