β€œAva applied the tacky mixture of cornstarch and red food dye to my face, let it drip down my chin, and I was placed in the path of oncoming traffic.”

Excerpt from β€œGranger, NY,” by Sophia Ross. It appears in the Summer 2025 collection of Online Exclusives.

Mom Tok is just code for the reality show - at this point it’s not really a tiktok thing and is just referring to who is in this friend group on the tv show. (One of the Dance Moms explained this recently and it made the show make more sense to me…as much as it can.)

Almost a full year out from graduating with my MFA, and today I'm finally back to teaching creative writing: a twelve-person fiction workshop at my local community center! All adults, all excited to try a new hobby. What are the best writing exercises/essays/stories you've used for a beginner class?

"They're putting persecuted Christian refugees in camps in the jungle" sounds like something Glenn Beck would accuse the Obama administration of doing and yet now it's a pillar of the Republican agenda.

RFK jr would kill so many people if he could. He’d kill them by taking away SSRIs, by taking away MMR vaccines and Covid vaccines and flu vaccines and polio vaccines and tetanus vaccines, he’d kill them by them by taking away the Gardasil vaccine, a would-be mass murderer with a worm in his head

In third grade I accidentally kicked another kid’s sweater that was on the floor while going to sit at my desk. Before I could go get it back, a different kid kicked it back toward me, THEN told on me and himself. Only time I ever had detention and I am still salty about it.

Opinion | There Is No Going Back The president’s opponents, whoever they are, cannot expect a return to the Constitution as it was.

Yeah so the Constitution isn’t really in effect right now

Next time you worry you’re taking up too much space, I want you to remember that there are grown ass men on public transit in the middle of the day who take up two seats, play their music out (obnoxiously) loud, and drink hard liquor from a plastic water bottle. You and your tote bag are fine.

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare.

Aspiration is the answer. Not just β€œwe’re not the bad guys.”

We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. πŸ‘ŠπŸ½

In news that doesn’t make me feel like the world is ending - we went to the canal and had a beer poke. What is a beer poke, you ask? It is a stout (delicious) that gets poked with a hot rod (really) making it even more delicious. @thomaseckert.dev and I are both fans!
