π€£ I love those stories. One time I was plugging in & a guy shouted βyour car is powered by coal!β
I replied βthe last coal plant closed in our state closed years ago. My car is powered by a hydro dam 30 miles awayβ
To his credit he said βoh, thatβs actually pretty coolβ & we had a great convo.

There was quite a shortage of vehicles just a few years ago. At least you got it used.

Yes indeed. A lot of modern cars do that now. I can see where both of my EVs are at all times via their apps. Hyundai was doing that on their Ioniq 5 already 4 years ago and back then it already charged faster than a Tesla and had CarPlay.
Teslaβs are no longer industry leading EVs.

So then your point is just get an EV.

Ha, true. And we do. It feels like science fiction that I can have a power plant on my roof that powers my home and car. We cut the methane (natural gas) line to our house completely.

As a household who drove manual sports cars for 25+ years and now has two non tesla EVs we couldnβt be happier. We would never go back to burning oil cars fart out carcinogenic fumes, cost more to own, and brake down all the time. #ev

The Best Alternatives to Every Tesla
Iβve got two electric cars, neither is a Tesla. Other EVs charge faster, are safer and have more features. Also Tesla is no longer the largest electric car company. BYD is. Both my cars are on this list:

Itβs amazing because we can make electricity from so many sources & itβs so efficient to make & transmit. I have solar panels on our roof. Like I won a power plant!
Petrol we can only make from oil & it takes a tremendous amount of electricity & minerals to refine it & even more fuel to ship it.

Not true because:
1) the grid is mixed. Itβs not 100% fossil fuels. In my area itβs less than 50%. Burning 50% less = good.
2) even if there was an area with electricity made from 100% fossil fuels (doesnβt exist) a power plant is much more efficient than a car engine. Itβs still better!

That MR2 had near 50/50 weight distribution. It was a sunny spring day in Connecticut so there was lots of salt and sand on the road from the winter. Took a turn with a little too much enthusiasm and the thing just pivoted on a dime. π€£
It was a fun car to drive.

Not as cool of a story in not as cool of a car as that but I accidentally did a 180 in my old Toyota MR2 in Connecticut. Somehow I ended up perfectly in the other lane pointing the opposite direction. Thankfully no one was around to hear my heart thumping out of my chest.

Iβm with you. There has been a lot of over romanticizing bad engine placement.

I agree with the macro take that whatever Porsche does it wonβt impact EV adoption. Itβs a niche brand with declining sales.
My controversial Porsche take: the Cayman should have been called the 911 & the current 911 should be called something else π€£. The current 911 looks like it ate a 911!

Thatβs not true because it takes a lot of energy to make & transport gasoline. The US grid varies. Where I live most of the electricity comes from hydro dams. But the grid is changing really quickly in the US. Lifetime pollution from an EV is 40% less including electricity from coal.

Great analogy! Not to mention how hot those old bulbs got. And that efficiency shows in how much electricity you save when you switch to LED bulbs.
Of course no one liked them at first and they were expensive, but then the government stepped in and mandated them and it all worked out.

If I wanted a gas powered manual Porsche there are plenty of interesting used ones to choose from. Iβd never buy a new gas powered sports car. Absolutely no point to them. They are just for dinosaurs who canβt move forward.
But if they made an electric Cayman Iβd definitely consider it.

the US grid is not 100% coal so itβs a fictional scenario.
Actually that isnβt true at all because making and transporting gasoline is also incredibly energy intensive.
The world is burning, time to change.

We cut out methane (natural gas) line to our house. Gas guy tried to tell me my electric appliances are powered by coal.
I told him nice try, last coal plant closed in our state years ago. Most of our grid here is hydro (plus we have home solar).
Point is so many bad faith disingenuous arguments.
