Climate engagement often starts with targets and plans - then asks communities to get on board. But what if we took a different approach?

πŸ€” One of the most common questions we’re asked when starting work with climate colleagues in local authorities is: β€œHow can we persuade people to change their behaviour to reduce emissions?”

🚫 But in our work, we often experience people pushing back against this approach.

Votes at 16 is a big step forward. The evidence from Scotland, where 16 and 17-year olds have had the vote since 2014, is that young people engage strongly with democracy and, when they start voting early, they keep on voting as they get older. That can only boost our democracy.

Opinion: Survey shows support for electoral reform now at 60% – so could it happen? With public support for reforming the UK’s first past the post electoral system on the rise, Professor Alan Renwick (UCL Constitution Unit) explores the chances of any such reform happening.

We have to build on the public support for electoral reform and make it happen. But we need to accept the difficulties Alan Renwick states here.

We owe it to every terminally ill person who has ever pleaded for a more compassionate law – and to the families who have supported them – to deliver this change.

This is about giving dying people real choice and control at the end of their lives.
