AI Completely Failing to Boost Productivity, Says Top Analyst AI may or may not excel at a lot of things, but from an economic standpoint, it's definitely not making us more productive.

β€œOne notable MIT study found that 95 percent of companies that integrated AI saw zero meaningful growth in revenue. For coding tasks, one of AI’s most widely hyped applications, another study showed that programmers who used AI coding tools actually became slower at their jobs.”

The world needs more work like The Vow in it. Lush, grimy, sexy, and just overflowing with care on every page. If there’s a more dynamic duo working in comics today, I don’t know who it is. Readers at all into fantasy, romance, or just simply good stories, well told, grab it now and thank me later.

You might see several artists mad about the bluesky policy update banning non-con, even artists who do not make that kind of material, and wonder why it's such a problem. If that's you, here is a quick breakdown:

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

People capable of loving some paintings or etchings or whatever can rarely do this without knowing something about the art-ist. Again, the situation is social rather than scientific. Any work of art is one halt of a conversation between two human beings, and it helps a lot to know who is talking at you. Does he or she have a reputation for seriousness, for sincerity? There are virtually no beloved or respected paintings made by persons of whom we know nothing. We can even surmise a lot about the lives of whoever did the paintings in the caves underneath Lascaux, France.
So I dare to suggest that no picture can attract serious attention without a human being attached to it in the viewer's mind. If you are unwilling to attach your name to your pictures, and to say why you hope others might find them rewarding to look at, there goes the ballgame right there. Pictures are famous for their human-ness and not their picture-ness.
There is also the matter of craftsmanship. Real picture lovers like to "play along," so to speak, to look closely at the surface to see how the illusion was created by nothing but an unusual human being, with hands and eyes. If you are unwilling to say how you made your pictures, there goes the ballgame a second time.
Good luck, and love as always
K

Kurt Vonnegut’s definition of what makes something β€œart” is one of my favorites I’ve seen - from a letter to his brother in 1995.

I mean, somebody’s gotta be out there on the bleeding edge, right? But it’s lonely as fuck out there among the blood and the blades. Ignatz be damned, I’m so glad your work exists in all its wonder and singularity.

Presently resisting the paternalistic urge to reach out to certain AVN creators, give them a hug, and softly reassure them that queerness would make their games significantly hotter and that moving away from homophobia and heteronormative tropes would give them broader market appeal, not narrower.

LeGuin wrote about the desire for 'unassailable safety' as one of the deep roots of evil, and I think about that a lot.

Are you looking for informed, constructive feedback on your smut or otherwise queer work? Drop me a line. If we're a good fit, we'll make it happen, whatever your needs.

Damn anyone who tries to take our light awayβ€”we'll shine even brighter.

Let's talk about weird art.

Weird art, gross art, sexual art, violent art, all has its place and belongs. And you really need to stop acting like the existence of uncomfortable themes equals harm. That kind of censorship, which IS what that is, only serves to silence and abuse people.

I support incest games. I support non-con and violent games. I support the right for games with fictionalized abuse of -any- form to exist.

the fundamental line in the sand is, "was another, real human being, harmed/abused/had their consent violated"? if that box isnt checked, then i dont care.

"This makes me uncomfortable so it shouldn't exist" is a tool I've seen covertly passed from fascists into the hands of young queer kids not realizing the implications of what they're doing

gently: it's fine if you don't love explicit sex scenes in fiction but it would be cool if you could talk about it without sounding indistinguishable from moms for liberty

remember that these people oppose trans healthcare for children because giving children agency over their bodies makes it harder for them to get away with preying on them and they see themselves entitled to sexually abusing children

erotica and horror are two sides of the same coin, if you wish to write good horror, you must be willing to turn someone on, and if you want to write good porn, you must be willing to scare someone
