One thing they don’t tell you about having multiple miscarriages is that the anxiety in subsequent pregnancies doesn’t necessarily go away after the baby is born. My second daughter is 11 weeks old and I am still having nightmares about pregnancy complications.

Maybe in the Netherlands, but doctors in US states with similar abortion ban “exceptions” are facing costly legal action and possible jail time even for abortions that would qualify as medically necessary in Europe. And anti-choicers put plenty of moral judgment even on medically indicated abortions

Yes, that was my understanding—that the abortion ban applies only to abortions that aren’t deemed medically necessary and that doctors are given considerable discretion to decide what counts as medically necessary

Yeah, that’s my understanding of how the abortion bans work in at least a few euro countries—that they apply only to non “medically necessary” abortions and that doctors have a considerable amount of freedom to determine what situations qualify. But yeah, I wouldn’t call it a great model.

And my understanding is that the exceptions that apply later in pregnancy also give a lot more leeway to doctors, so that people are actually able to access these later abortions when necessary instead of being denied care out of confusion and fear of prosecution

After having a baby, I am absolutely astounded that there are so many people who claim to be about family values while arguing against family bonding leave. Some countries give as much as 18 months to both parents. It’s so valuable to both the parents and the children!
