Spillterminologi

For 15-ish รฅr siden drev Gamer.no med idรฉmyldring rundt forslag til norske erstatningsord for engelsk spillterminologi. Noen kjempegode (digger fremdeles drott).

Jeg husker ikke hvem som starta initiativet (@tst.gamer.no ?), men jeg fant en kopi slengende her nรฅ.

Id recommend Spark mail - it's been good to me for years and have a lot of nifty features. And its Ukranian.

Increasingly I have come around to the perspective that "hackability" of TRPGs is not actually a positive of the medium and is instead an overall neutral aspect that often dips into the negatives when used to justify Bethesda-esque "it's fine that the game is bad because YOU can fix it!" stances

I also vote Chrono Trigger, but yeah, not an easy choice.

100% Agreed.
The worst case of this iโ€™ve seen was in Destiny 2 where you have to talk to a character, leave and load into a different planet and talk to that exact same person over the radio

Still my favourite turn based rpg! Hands down best of all time.

Bloodmoon Rush on Steam Brave through Draculaโ€™s castle to retrieve Davids true love; his car! In this 2D platformer with stunning visuals, youโ€™ll face goons and ghouls, fight off Draculaโ€™s loyal staff and explore the castle ...

Some of my students just published their game demo on steam under the #SteamNextFest. Really excited to see them get this far in just 5 months of hard work.

Check out this little indie gem and support the up and coming game devs.

To any game dev students: This picture goes so hard, because this is exactly 100% how it is.
Learn to accept the meandering roads of game development and your will make games with less worry and headache - still difficult to make good games tho..

This is great! Makes it very easy to ensure people that in fact everything in the game is handcrafted.

A picture of the massive roots of a Great Kapok Tree in the shadow of a forest. Surrounded by vibrant green palm trees and vines, it's bark is a pale shade of green-tinged grey, dotted with lichen, and shaped as if it was moulded out of smooth clay. A group of young researchers stand next to it on a carpet of brown leaves and forest soil, showing off its scale, as all five wouldn't be able to stretch even a third of the way around it's massive base, even with arms outstretched.

Pictured is a forest of Redwood trees as seen from the bottom, towering well above the camera's lenses into the foggy sky. Their bark, ruddy shade of tanned leather brown, is smooth looking yet wrinkled from this distance, as they grow from the brown leave cover on the ground. Standing next to one is a man, utterly miniscule to scale, surrounded by the arboreal giants.

A picture of a redwood forest, taken looking up from the ground. The forest is verdant and damp, exploding with green ferns and creepers and clover, as the towering brown shapes of sequoia trees push upwards into the sky. Wringed with branches covered in deep green leaves, they reach upwards into the grey sky. A woman in a white shirt and a straw hat looks up from the brown soil of a path cutting through the green ferns on the ground, and is dwarfed by the scale of the giant trees.

You know what I want to see more of in fantasy?
GOD TREES.

Trees so massive & ancient that to call them anything but gods does them injustice.

Trees with root structures & mycelial networks so vast that locals whisper they might be aware & watching.

Trees so big they ARE a biome.

GOD TREES.

kyle_maclachlan Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didn't recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.
What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean bursting forth inside of him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wish we could get to.
Our friendship blossomed on Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and I always found him to be the most authentically alive person I'd ever met.
David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath.
While the world has lost a remarkable artist, l've lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own.
I can see him now, standing up to greet me in his backyard, with a warm smile and big hug and that Great Plains honk of a voice. We'd talk coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world, and laugh.
His love for me and mine for him came out of the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best things about themselves in each other.
I will miss him more than the limits of my language can tell and my heart can bear. My world is that much fuller because I knew him and that much emptier now that he's gone.
David, I remain forever changed, and forever your Kale. Thank you for everything.

If there's anything I hope young creatives take from David Lynch, it's to reject the modern IP-driven impulse to explicitly explain and cleanly categorize the logic behind every single event and decision inside and outside of a story at least some of the time.

This is an interesting topic, but there are some big differences with games vs movies that make consistent processes much harder to achieve. (As Iโ€™m talking about this keep in mind that Iโ€™m also an outsider to films).

just as an outsider with an interest in video game development, and coming from the film industry, it really feels like the game industry has no standardized workflow. every new project gets a bespoke production system with a lot of uncertainty about tasks, roles and who should be doing what

A big misconception is that you need to be motivated to get rolling.
You don't.
Research: Motivation often FOLLOWS action, not the other way around.
In Practice: You don't need to feel good to get going; you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good.

This is the single most important advice any creative person needs to hear.

There are of course factors such as financial insecurity or mental and physical impediments (spoons โ‰  motivation even though people will tell you they are the same) but when you can, do, whether you feel inspired or not.

"Under Shadow Of Night" is a Mythical Horror TTRPG set in the Stone Age. Prepare to carry the mantle of the Wardens; protectors of the people.

Perform the sacred rites, bargain with spirits and rebuke accursed monsters. Forge yourself a legend, and a worthy legacy.
