Wouldn’t you review the data first and then assess anomalies and outliers? If a person AMAB shows up in a dataset on pregnancy complications, I’m going to look closer. Was the wrong sex noted? Was the wrong ICD 10 code noted? Limiting the data prior to review can cause you to miss data entry errors.

“Pediatric has many definitions,” to me, reads very differently than “certain *types* of pediatric firearm deaths may be more or less common within *specific age bands* of the pediatric population.” If the latter was what you intended to communicate, then I agree.

That is a valuable clarification which you did not make before in your original comment.

I want to bring back to the forefront that this all started with your assertion that there are different definitions of “pediatric.” Instead of going back and forth dozens of times, how about you just lay out your point? 15 years ago, we would’ve said this age group doesn’t really understand death as permanent. Newer research says that’s not the case, esp in kids with suicidal ideation.

Suicide is too complex a topic and act to set an arbitrary age, especially given the increases in the under-12 pop. Determination of whether a death is accidental or intentional has to be based on multiple circumstances, not just a child’s age.

Suicide is an extremely complex topic, but you’d have to go younger than that. There is existing research on suicidality that includes 4-6 year olds. But I’m curious why you’re so focused on whether young kids can commit by firearms, rather than the broader issue of unnecessary ped death by firearm.

We can. Can we agree that whether a toddler accidentally fires a gun or a teenager dies from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, it was a needless death caused that could have been prevented from occurring in that manner if the gun owner had properly secured their weapon?

Only if you can agree that any firearm suicide by a teen is the direct result of an adult’s failure to follow basic gun safety practices and procedures.

And is there a VFlex above an N95 (99 or 100?) or did you switch to that because you get a better seal or find it more breathable?

Auras are my go-to if I’m going to spend any significant amount of time indoors, and I have an Aranet 4 that I take in my bag if I’m going to be anywhere crowded indoors. Out of curiosity, what is your ppm threshold to switch from Aura to something more protective?

Suicides are not the only way that children die from firearms.

People without uteruses don’t die in childbirth, because they can’t get pregnant. Children of all ages die from firearms. Not an apt comparison.

Their intent when accessing the firearm is not the issue. The issue is that an adult didn’t secure the firearm in a manner that prevented access by a minor.
